Wed., Sept. 14 is our regular meeting day, but September is also the time for the Garden Club's Fall Luncheon. If you have not purchased your tickets to this annual event, please don't hesitate to call Betty Beidelman at 769-6200 to see if there are available reservations. The October meeting will be a video of the History of See's Candies. See's Candies Sales are the main fund raiser of the Garden Club Charities which are many. Trips: Trip #1: Evelyn Hawkins, our trip planner is offering a bus trip to the Living Desert on Oct. 18. The cost is $60 pp and lunch is on your own. Included in this price are the bus, driver tip and a tram tour of the grounds which you can hop on and off at anytime. This way you get an overall view of what is there and where you might like to return to. Extra attractions on the property are all animal venues, train exhibit, animal hospital, botanical gardens and gift shop. Everyone is welcome to attend. Trip #2: Then, of course, we have the trip to Rancho Cucamonga to view all the fabulous Christmas lights and decorations. Trip date is Dec. 5. Dinner will be on your own. See's Candies will be on sale at the Fall Luncheon on Sept. 14. We have gift certificates for sale all year. See's Candies will be offered again at the Fall Craft Fair on Nov. 4 and 5. For information please call Maureen Keeny at 797-0011. The Plant A Row group raises vegetables on plots at Dysart Park that are given to our local food pantries. The Fruit Pickers recently picked a Sun Lakes Garden that had a lot of Asian Pears on the tree. The pears were taken to H.E.L.P and Table of Plenty. Other food pantries have also been recipients of the fruit pickers labors. Oranges, lemons and grapefruit have also been picked and donated. Please don't let your fruit go to waste. Plant A Tree & Penny Pines Programs: Since 1993, the Garden Club has collected and donated $29,147.45 to purchase 413 acres of trees to be planted in our local forest. A single tree or an acre or acres can be donated in memory of a loved one. For more information on these programs, please call Linda Callahan at 797-3306. Soaps, Lotions & Personal Products: Our Chairperson, Barbara Ely shared with us that donations are down and we have not been able to give these items to the groups that need them. Please don't forget to collect those hotel products and bring them to the monthly meetings. For more information call Barbara at 769-5659. Box Tops For Schools, Soup Can Labels, Eyeglasses, Cell Phones & Small Suitcases: Please call Joan Blumenfeld at 845-6715 for more information. These items can be brought to Joan or to the monthly meetings. Joan distributes these items to the appropriate recipients. We thank you for all donations and hope to see you at the next meeting. Our organizational meeting for the holiday season is Mon., Sept. 12, at 8:30 am in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. Following the meeting will be our first rehearsal of the season, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. We offer friendship, fun, and the beautiful melodies of inspiring songs for Hanukkah and Christmas. We even offer optional free voice lessons. Our warm-up breathing exercises will help you develop stamina, and it's a well-known fact that singing is good for your mental and physical health.
