| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2016 | 25 Musician's Jam We are thrilled by the response to the new Musicians' Jam sessions. You pulled instruments out of the rafters and borrowed them back from the grandkids. You came out to support your neighbors and spend an energy filled afternoon with your friends. Are you a musician, ex-musician, music student, friend or fan of a musician? Then you are invited to join us for a casual, open mic type music jam session. We will get two more times this year from 3:30 to 6 pm in the North Clubhouse (Sept. 4, and Nov. 6). We already have dates booked for each month in 2017. Hosts Lee and Michael Stone provide a professional sound system, including three mics and stands and a CD player. You, the performer, supply your own instrument and backing track music on CD, if needed. A sign-up sheet will be available, names will be drawn and performers will play two to three songs of their choice depending on how many folks show up. We plan to provide a supportive venue for you to play at whatever level you may be at this moment. Singers have karaoke – now you musicians have Musicians' Jam. (Singers are welcome too – bring your own backing tracks or musician to play for you.) Info., Michael Stone, (619) 246-6645. The Sun Lakes Photo Group is back after summer hiatus. Our next meeting will be Sept. 12, the second Monday of September, in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room at 7 pm. If you have done the summer assignment bring your work on a CD or flash drive to the meeting. Additionally Al Jaszcar will be presenting a history of Leica cameras. If it hadn't been for Leica there might never have evolved photojournalism and news photography as we know it. Our meetings are fun for anyone interested in photography. We get to share pictures at each meeting. Some meetings have tutorials on Photoshop techniques, digital cameras and other subjects. Our meetings are on the second Monday of each month at 7 pm in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room beginning again on Sept. 12 (see above - just another reminder). There is a projector system and photos can be brought on either a CD or a flash drive, also known as a thumb drive. Some of our members had no idea which end of the camera was which when they first started and you will see that their progress is amazing. Some of the groups' photos are on the automatic electronic display near the Main Clubhouse restaurant. You will enjoy attending our group. Meetings are informal, there are no dues and whether you are a novice or a pro it is always fun to see what others are doing with their cameras. Info., Steve Felber, 769-6898. Photo Group Makua Hula group has been teaching hula lessons for free in Sun Lakes for about 15 years. If you would like to become part of our group, and enjoy the beautiful Hawaiian and Tahitian dances that we present, please contact Olga Marquette at (951) 846-3579. It is fun and good exercise. We meet on Wednesdays from 10 am to 12 noon at the North Clubhouse and on Saturdays from 8 to 10 am at the stage in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Aloha!. Makua Hula We offer a full Luau Entertainment for your private party or club! Happy Cookers September program will be "All Things Pumpkin and Squash." Available for tasting will be six sweet pumpkin or squash items and six savory pumpkin or squash items. We will have a variety that will knock your socks off. This is a program not to be missed on Fri., Sept. 23, in the South Clubhouse at 11 am. Happy Cookers is hosting an excursion to Edwards Air Force Base on Nov. 15. Edwards is the second largest Air Force installation in the U.S. Did you know that it was the site of the first space shuttle landing in 1981? There is much to learn here. We will also tour the Air Force Flight Test Museum. Now you may ask what this has to do with Happy Cookers? We're mixing it up. After visiting Edwards, we will visit Charlie Brown Farms, which started as a fruit stand in 1929. They sell lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as nostalgic candy and their famous date shakes. This is a day long excursion. Lunch is on your own. Cost is only $41 pp. Write checks payable to Happy Cookers. There is a drop box at 6352 Spyglass Court. For further information, call Connie Cutner, 797-0072, or Linda Callahan, 797-3306.
