| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2016 | 3 By Doug Swenson FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK My President's letter in the June Lifestyles was dedicated to listing all the committees that we have here at Sun Lakes. They all have a specific function which assists the Master Board in performing their duties. Currently the term of each volunteer is two years beginning Jan. 1. The Master Board met with all the committees back in June to discuss anything that they might have an interest in discussing. We are currently gathering the feedback from that meeting to see what the volunteers feel might need to be changed in regards to the committees. Once we have reviewed this information coming back from them, we will make necessary changes to improve this process. It is now September and all the committees are in the process of determining their volunteer staffing needs for 2017 and seeing who has volunteered for their committee. Once this has been completed, the committees will interview the new candidates and select those individuals who are best qualified for the committee as well as who would fit best with the current committee members. These names are then submitted to the Master Board by mid-November so they can be approved in the November open session to be held this year on Nov. 23. If any resident of Sun Lakes has an interest in serving on one of the committees, the process is very simple for showing that interest. In the Main Clubhouse or in the Administration building there are Volunteer Interest Forms to fill out. Once this is done, return them to the front desk in the Main Clubhouse or the front desk of the Administration building. Each Volunteer Interest Form will be placed in the folder for those committees that you show interest in so the Chairperson of that committee knows who wants to serve and who should be considered. This month, I am going to focus on one committee that is in serious trouble. That is the Bingo Committee. They are not in trouble because of any specific issues but because of lack of volunteers. This committee runs the Tuesday night bingo and consists of five members. As of now, they only have four members, three of whom are scheduled to complete their terms Dec. 31. The committee runs the bingo every Tuesday evening and then meets every Wednesday to count the proceeds of the previous night and set things up for the following Tuesday. As you can see, it takes a great amount of dedication to commit this much time to the committee but through the efforts of the current members, all is running smoothly right now. The current members have asked those people participating in bingo to volunteer but as of right now, nobody has stepped to the plate to say they would help. Without volunteers, the bingo operations would have to be terminated and this Tuesday night activity would cease to exist. Please think about volunteering or discuss with your friends about the need so the bingo committee continues to run smoothly. My final topic is the Age Verification Forms that everyone received earlier this year. Every two years Sun Lakes Country Club is required to verify that at least 80 percent of the residents are 55 or older. This information is obtained by providing an Age Verification Form that, when returned to Administration, can be included in the count. As of right now only approximately 70 percent of the residents have filled out and returned the forms. We have notified the District Delegates of the shortcoming in their district and they are now going to have to contact their members to get the forms completed. If you are one of the residents who haven't filled out the form, contact the Administration office and they will make sure you receive a form to fill out. This is a federal requirement in order for us to retain our status as a 55+ community. There are many benefits Sun Lakes receives being a 55+ community which would be lost were we not to attain the 80 percent level.
