26 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | September 2016 | Thoughts for the Month: In September, we start thinking of cooler weather. The leaves are starting to turn that wonderful gold as they drop from the branches. We find little piles here and there. If you are a long-time Hemet resident, you know that "cold"is a long way off. We are sorry to report that it looks as though we may have several more months of warm weather. The pesky leaves will continue to fall as well. Let's spread a little Sunshine here and there anyway! Kindness Recognition: At our Aug. 1 business meeting, LaDean Hatcher awarded the second Kindness Award to Judy Capps (photo inset above). LaDean's comments, in part, stated, "When Judy sees a need to help her neighbors and fellow residents, she steps up every time. She puts herself out there, by not only transporting people to where they need to be, but staying with them after they are there." Congratulations to Judy Capp! (Judy was nominated by Priscilla Hieber). Team Sunshine is proud to have adopted this important way of recognizing KINDNESS in our community. There are many more folks who perform these caring and loving deeds each day. Keep your eyes open for those who do just a little bit extra to make our life here so much better. Pick up your Kindness Cards from the Front Desk or, if you see LaDean Hatcher, she can also supply you with cards. Celebration of Life: A Celebration of Life was held on Aug. 13 for Angelo LaPonza. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to family and friends. There may be others who have suffered loss in our community that we are unaware of. If this is the case, we send our sincerest condolences. Jackie Peterson's Celebration of Life Team is pictured here. They are one of four teams who are called into action to help with a Celebration of Life. It is our privilege to serve. Team Sunshine Information: So… by now you should get a pretty good idea of the mission of Team Sunshine. But in case you still have questions, pick up a Caring Connection Information Card at the Lodge front desk. We try to provide the community with Team Sunshine services. Our two co-chairs (Margie Culton and Marilyn Rhyne, photo inset above) are also available to answer your questions. SOS (Serving Our Seniors) Cards and Phone Service: If you know of someone who has had surgery, recovering from an illness, etc., please contact Trish Egan (909) 844-3852. This information is also passed to a "calling team." They will initiate a call as follow-up. Special Monthly Programs: Our Program Team (Rose Mary Garrison, Maggie Grimes, Donna McLaughlin, Linda Adkins and Sandy St. John) work hard to bring special, interesting and informative programs to the community. The presentation on Aug. 17 on Regenerative Medicine was well received and provided non- surgical alternatives to pain management. We are looking forward to an innovative program on Sept. 21 - a Self Defense demonstration which provides us with information on awareness, defensive moves, etc. In October, we are having an evening program with a"Medium" scheduled. This is an interactive format. Snacks will be served and you may bring your own beverage. We thank you for your support of our programs. Tour of "The Village:" Team Sunshine has been invited on Oct. 4 to tour "The Village." A lunch has been included with this invitation. If you are interested in joining us, contact Jeanne Lincoln, (951) 765- 7112, and your name will be added to the list of attendees. Closing Thoughts: "To know how to grow old is the master work of wisdom, and one of the most difficult chapters in the great art of living." ~ Henri Frederic Amiel Team Sunshine Celebration of Life team
