28 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | OCTOBER 2016 STAG: Senior Transportation Assistance Group Interest Group This has been an exciting month of firsts for STAG. We held our first meeting of the Four Seasons Senior Transportation Assistance Group with 25 people in attendance, including Beaumont transportation officials Elizabeth Gibbs and Pat Foster, Beaumont Treasurer, Nancy Carroll and Banning Mayor, Art Walsh. The most important were the people of the community offering their support. Among them, we found volunteers who are now working to form a group to help those of us in need of a ride. The STAG meetings are open to all Four Seasons homeowners. We hope more of you will turn out for our meetings at noon at Smitty's on the third Thursday of the month – this month on the 20th. We want and need your input. We also welcome representatives from other senior communities in the Pass area to support what we are trying to do. The day after the meeting we took our first trip, via Dial-A-Ride and fixed-route Pass Transit buses, to Morongo Casino for a free buffet and tour of the facility. We had a great time. It is a walking tour and we ask those who attend in the future to bring water or a snack – some of us got a bit thirsty or hungry. The trip from our door with a transfer at Walmart, took an hour. Anyone wishing to go on a future trip to Morongo, please pick up a flyer at the Lodge and email or call me if you need help answering the questions on the flyer. Our October trip is full, but we are compiling a waiting list for future trips. We held an ice cream social on Sept. 29 to hear guest speakers on local transportation and the use of Americans with Disabilities Act cards. The presentation was followed by a question and answer period. Elizabeth Gibbs gave us a list of Beaumont taxi companies that are safe, licensed and insured: Yellow Cab, Bell/Yellow Cab, AA Inland Empire Cab, Valley D.C. Cab and Bumble Bee Taxi, Inc. Finally, we have a sign-up sheet for Kaiser-Permanente patients in the Lodge. We hope to nudge Kaiser into putting an urgent care facility in the Pass area, and/or better the transportation to Kaiser facilities in Fontana, Redlands, Riverside, Moreno Valley and Palm Springs. We have heard a local Kaiser facility has been under consideration for some 20 years. We think Kaiser needs a strong reminder that we are waiting and growing every day. Board Member Jeanne Granville said she has called contacts at Kaiser and is pressing the issue of transportation for us. Please come to the next meeting of STAG on Oct. 20 at noon at Smitty's. Be supportive of convenient, economical and safe rides for our senior citizens. Whether you need this service once, or repeatedly, we need to get it organized now so it will be there when you do need it. ~ Brenda and Richard Teeman, (909) 594-8487 Above: Arrival at Morongo Casino With Travel Training Team Four Seasons Participants Right: STAG meeting August, 2016 - Mario Janesin (Systems Change Advocate), Richard and Brenda Teeman Far right: Brenda Teeman being helped with the Pass Bus Lift at Morongo Casino
