22 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | October 2016 | The Creative Spotlight Ellyn Wolfe, a Four Seasons resident since 2013, is not your typical creative person. She is a wordsmith, in the process of writing her first book, a memoir of a particularly challenging year and a half in her life when she lost her son to cancer, survived her own cancer and lost her nephew in a handgun accident. "When Rob was diagnosed, I looked for books written by mothers who had lost adult children. I found nothing, so I promised myself I would write that book to help others in similar situations who need to know they are not alone." The difficult parts are balanced with humor, practical ideas on getting help, and stories of how she kept herself moving forward through grief. She expects to be finished writing by the end of this year. As editor of Straitjackets Magazine (straitjacketsmagazine.com). Ellyn has the privilege of selecting literary submissions from members of the Diamond Valley Writers Guild (dvwritersguild.org), the newest home for writers in the Inland Empire. The Guild meets at the Hemet Library on the fourth Saturday of each month, January through October. All writers, poets and those who are curious are welcome. Ellyn's career has been all about helping people. With undergraduate and master's degrees in psychology from Harvard, she was the Work/Life Director for a major Boston- based bank, the Human Resources Director at the San Diego Convention Center, and the Director of Work/Life Integration at the UCSD Center for Mindfulness, where, among other duties, she wrote presentations which have been delivered across the world. She has been teaching stress management in the corporate arena and privately since 1995, and is on deck to teach stress management and mindfulness at a new UCSD cardiac facility in the spring. As a certified Life Coach, Ellyn works with clients (on the phone and in person) who want to bring change into their lives, but can't seem to get there on their own. She helps individuals manage their stress, find their voice, understand and use their strengths, get motivated, and much more. Her contact information is below. Photography is a passion that keeps Ellyn close to nature, a balancing force in her life. Three Hemet Herald covers have come from her camera. And creating distinctive jewelry is another pastime that keeps Ellyn relaxed and happy in her creative life.
