Get out your formal wear and come join us. Big Band Dance 80s Plus Club We kind of assume the name of the club describes it all, but maybe it's not so obvious to some what our club is all about. This club is for a monthly gathering for those over 80 years of age. However, spouses under 80 are also included and considered members just as well. Sometimes caregivers and sometimes family members (including kids and grandkids) attend as well, so you never know who will be there. If you're thinking this club is only full of old fogies, you might be pleasantly surprised by those attending. We have a dinner, sometimes catered and sometimes more casual of pizza or sandwiches and we always have some entertainment. There's plenty of time to socialize and get to know the other people at your table. I think it's safe to say that many friendships have started by strangers sitting at the same table. Our August event featured Ray Renden as our entertainment. Our favorite crooner sang You're Nobody 'til Somebody Loves you, Until the Real Time Comes Along and others until someone specifically requested Ray's signature song, Cellophane Man, which he graciously performed and ended with. Our meal featured the casual fare of Albertsons sandwiches and members brought lots of good desserts. October will be a non-catered dinner of Kentucky Fried Chicken, so members are encouraged to bring desserts for this function as well. We meet the second Saturday of the month at 3 pm at the South Clubhouse. Spouses and caregivers are welcome to attend as well. For information call Barb at 845-7904. Int'l Culture Club October is the month when the Sun Lakes Ballroom is visited by goblins, witches and a variety of spooky creatures that have been in hiding all year waiting for the right time to come out and make their annual appearance at the I.C.C. monthly dinner, dance, and Halloween party. They are always happy to have new characters join in with them in the Halloween Costume Parade. The doors to the Ballroom open at 5:30 pm on the second Thursday evening in October. There is just no telling who is going to greet you as you enter, but you will be welcomed. The band for the evening is Global Affair and plays from 6 to 9 pm. The dinner buffet by table call starts at 6:30 pm. We feature two buffet stations, each with two lines so this goes quickly. You will find chicken sautéed in marinara sauce, tri tip with peppercorn sauce, mashed potatoes, asparagus and red pepper strips, a chopped lettuce salad with mushrooms, red onion rings, tomatoes and blue cheese crumbles. Dinner rolls with butter will be table pre set. The dessert of 4" square coconut bars with orange drizzle is also table served along with coffee and water. Iced tea will be found on a side board at the back of the room. You can sign up for this evening of fun on the first Thursday afternoon in October at the North Clubhouse at 3 pm. $22 for members and $25 for a non-resident guest. If you are unable to attend after signing up, you can get a refund from Carol Hurt at 769-1315 by that Sunday afternoon of sign-up. If you missed the sign-up, you can still do so if you call Carol Hurt by that Sunday afternoon and she will assign table seating to you. Also, she will give you a take-out meal box on the evening of the dance if you call her and request at 769-1315. She is the club treasurer and the "Go-to-lady. " Sign-ups on the first Thursday of every month. Dance is always on the second Thursday of every month Price of dinner: $22 pp for members, $25 pp for guests.
