"Let's Write About It!"
As I was about to enter the Clubhouse to attend the Creative
Writer's Class, I stopped in the hallway, and silently started a one-
woman-debate.
"Why seek here for a support system?"… It's close by!
"Maybe another rewrite in order?"… Of course, it is!
"Comedy is my poorest of birth."… But it's still a good baby!
"Critique from strangers?… Why not hear a truth; friends
sugarcoat!"
"Will they find my story entertaining? If not, maybe the next one!"
I peeked into the Multipurpose Room. A dozen writers, more men
than women, were chaired around a group of tables, end-to-end.
Some were poised as polished professionals, pen in hand positioned
like artists in thought; others communicated through nods and
smiling eyes; and still others, beginners like me, had chosen this
pathway to achieve a better finished product. There was laughter as
they were sharing a Philadelphia experience. Timidly, I went inside.
A chorus of greetings welcomed me! After introductions, Roger
Smith, the group's leader,
invited everyone to share
their work in progress. Each
revealed a penned treasure,
which was followed by gifts
of constructive criticism,
praise, and/or applauds.
I am excited to return to
the next scheduled meeting with completion of my
imagination-on-paper to share.
