52 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2016 Billiards for Fun If you have always wanted to practice your billiards skills in an environment that is happy, fun, and non-stressful (except during in- house tournaments, of course!), then Billiards for Fun Group is for you! This is an amazing group of some of the nicest residents in Four Seasons. Many friendships have been formed through this group, and we always have a really fun time. On Oct. 11, we had our bi-monthly potluck with a harvest- decoration theme. As usual, the fare was exceptional, the company fun and entertaining, and once again, a success! Now that traveling season is over and we are headed into winter, our travelers have rejoined the group and it is always such a delight to have them back. Their return brings challenging partnerships and lots more laughter and fun. In November, we will have our quarterly in-house tournament, which is always a lot of fun, and the two winning partnerships will have their names engraved on the BFFG plaque. So all you readers out there should visit the Billiards Room sometime and check out the BFFG plaque. I bet you didn't know the amazing talents some of your friends and neighbors possess! In December, we are looking forward to our traditional holiday potluck party, this year to be held in the Game Room by the Library in the Lodge. This promises to be a fun and memorable affair, complete with a bring-your-own-bottle addition. Hopefully there won't be any resultant hangovers! If you have always wanted to come join a fun group of pool players, learn how to play, or brush up on your rusty skills, now's the time to join us! We meet every Tuesday in one of two sessions: 11 am to 1 pm or 1 to 3 pm. On Saturdays there is an informal practice session from 11 am to 1 pm. Hope to see you soon! ~ Eileen Gilbert-Antoine Carlos Rivera lines up his shot, as supportive Billiards for Fun members look on During the 8-Ball in-house tournament, for the second month in a row, Roland Harrah, (that's me) somehow managed to survive four rounds of play undefeated. In round three I sent Larry Rice to the loser's bracket wherein he defeated Dewey Allen for the second time on the day to rejoin me in the finals. During the first round of the finals, I fouled, giving Larry ball-in-hand allowing him to win game one. According to the rules of double elimination, he had to win twice and once again, proving that LUCK is an important part of this game, I got lucky and was victorious to secure the monthly 8-Ball championship. A funny thing happened on the way to the in-house 9 Ball championship this month. Rick Loney was not defeated in four rounds of play after having a bye in round one due to the luck of the draw. I was defeated once in the second round but was victorious in four subsequent games to re-enter the final against Rick. During game one, I ran the last four balls but after sinking the 9-Ball, I potted the cue ball to take the loss. Rick won fair and square and deserves the honor, I on the other hand symbolically hang my head. It's all good and tons of fun for all, win or lose. ~ Roland Harrah The 8-Ball Club 8-Ball In-House Tournament: (L-R) Larry Rice runner up, Roland Harrah winner 9-Ball In-House Tournament: (L-R) Roland Harrah runner up, Rick Loney winner
