FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2016 53 Our amazing Curly Cues group of pool-playing, happy women is going strong! We have such a great time each week, and are so happy our seasonal travelers have come home for the winter. Yay! On Oct. 3, we had our first in-house tournament and it was such a blast (See adjacent photo). Unlike some of the other billiard club tournaments at Four Seasons, there was much banter, teasing, laughter and chatter during this tournament. We played the same way we play each week: pulling peas for partnership assignments, and table rotation - except, of course, this was a tournament and double elimination applied. One by one, the partnerships were eliminated, until four remained. Three of those partnerships had one win and one loss each. Two teams were eliminated, and two were left standing: the partnership of Leta Ramirez and Verina Rector was undefeated, and the partnership of our two newest members, Donna Lewis and Sandi Butler-Roberts, had one win and one loss. That meant that Donna and Sandi would have had to beat Leta and Verina twice ~ OR Leta and Verina could win once to take home the coveted prizes! Yep, the latter scenario is exactly what happened; Leta and Verina were the winners! (See photo above of Leta and Verina with their harvest decoration prizes). Congratulations to the first-ever Curly Cues winners! We are planning a holiday luncheon in December, and another in- house tournament in January. Everyone voted to purchase a plaque for the Billiards Room to display the winners of each quarterly tournament, instead of prizes. These ladies seriously want their names inscribed in Four Seasons history, of course! Also coming up in 2017 will be a tournament between the Curly Cues and the Billiards for Fun Group, as well as a month devoted to learning the pool games of 1-15 and 9-ball. Hopefully by late 2017, the ladies will feel confident enough to take on Solara Hemet ladies in an invitational tournament. We'll see! If any of you Four Seasons women readers out there are interested in joining a fun group of lovely ladies, please come by the Billiards Room any Monday between 1 and 3 pm and observe or join this amazing group. We have individual lessons available if you have never played (but always wanted to learn) or practice times are available to dust off those rusty skills. Hope to see you soon! ~ Eileen Gilbert-Antoine Curly Cues Tournament winners (L-R) Leta Ramirez and Verina Rector The Curly Cues in action during first in-house tournament
