Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will
eat forever. However, if he is not lucky and a bad fisherman, he may also go
hungry. I hope that none of my fishing buddies will ever go hungry.
On one of my fishing trips with a good friend, Lee Harris, I learned a
valuable lesson about fishing and retirement. We were headed to a local lake
to do some trout fishing. I advised Lee that we had to hurry to get to the lake
to get a good spot to fish. Lee turned to me and said, "Richard, we are retired.
We do not have to hurry to do anything." We got to the lake and each caught
a limit of trout. It was a great day of fishing and I learned the true value of
being retired and fishing with good friends.
I believe that you have to have three things in order to go fishing: Time,
money and desire. If you have the desire to go fishing, you will make the
money and take the time to go.
We have our meeting at the Lodge Card Room every third Thursday of the
month. The time of the meeting is 6:30 pm. We would really like to see some
of our members and get fishing pictures from them to put in the Breeze.
Three words you love to hear while you are fishing, "I got one." Three
words you hate to hear while you are fishing, "I lost it."
I used to cry when I lost a nice fish. Now that I am older and more mature,
I still cry when I lose a nice fish. I also laugh, because I know that sooner or
later I am going to catch that fish and have a great dinner.
Tight lines to all our fishing friends and don't forget to take a kid fishing.
Remember: As an American you have the right to go fishing and enjoy life
to the fullest. ~ Richard Carrasco
