26 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | November 2016 | Thoughts for the Month: As we move into November, we are reminded of the sacrifice of our men and women in the military. Veterans Day finds us remembering and celebrating this nation's history of those who gave much and some who gave their all. We must never forget what Old Glory stands for in this country. We are grateful for those who serve and have served. Thank you for your contribution. Celebrations of Life: We have just been informed of the passing of Roger Weaver (wife, Ruby). We extend our deepest sympathy and condolences to the Weaver family. We are not always contacted regarding Four Seasons families who have lost a loved one. Team Sunshine deems it a privilege to be of service in time of need. We are here to serve our seniors (SOS). Kindness Recognition: This month's recipient for the Team Sunshine Kindness Award is Carol Blasingame (photo above). Carol is often seen on campus riding her three-wheel bike through the community. She sometimes uses it as a very creative way of walking her dogs. Carol is also known for her work with Ham Radios and lending her expertise in that regard to our Four Seasons Community Emergency Response Team. There is no doubt she is a busy lady. But Carol is not too busy to show kindness and a helping hand toward her neighbors, Fran Hayner noticed. Fran said about Carol: "She is an angel on earth. Carol went above and beyond the call of kindness to help her friend and neighbor, Mike Garett, when he became injured. She was always there to do whatever special tasks he needed to get through his recovery. Carol extends the same kindness to her other neighbors and friends." Thank you, Carol! Immunization Clinic: We hosted the Sept. 23 Immunization Clinic (photo right) and assisted the Rite Aid folks as we have done for several years. There were over 100 immunizations dispensed on that date. This program ensures our community has easy access to this year's immunization program. Emilie Ortega, Activities Chair, for Team Sunshine and her Sunshiners got right down to task and provided that support when residents needed comfort if the "needle" made them a little uneasy! Special Team Sunshine Information: Cards and Phone Service: If you know of someone who has had surgery, recovering from an illness, etc., please contact Trish Egan (909) 844-3852. She will send an appropriate card. This information is also passed to a "calling team". They will initiate a call as follow-up. Also, Trish tells us that she receives a good number of calls regarding other Team Sunshine services. We encourage you to call Margie Culton (909) 491-4058 or Marilyn Rhyne (909) 926- 9347 as they are the Co-Chairs of Team Sunshine and can provide information on other services. A good source of information on Team Sunshine is the Caring Connection Card which can be obtained at the front desk in the lodge. Please stop by and pick up your copy. Special Monthly Programs: In September, we featured a Self Defense program which was well attended by the community. Those who attended had glowing remarks regarding the content of this special presentation. As we wind down to the end of the year, we are offering an evening program which features a "Psychic/Medium". On Oct. 17 (6:30 – 8 pm), our program format will change a bit. Snacks will be served. You may bring your own "special beverage". We thank you for your support of our programs and want to also say thank you to our Program Team for a year of diverse and interesting programs. Vintage Voices Christmas Program: Team Sunshine is honored to be sponsoring the Dec. 11 Vintage Voices Christmas program entitled, "Christmas in the Air". Ross Brunetto's Vintage Voices always has a delightful menu of songs for the Christmas season. We will be serving cookies and dessert items. Beverages will be available as well. Team Sunshine's Steering Committee: This committee meets before the formal Business Meeting to go over agenda items and discuss what needs to be added or changed. Team Sunshine documents which need updating; contributions and financial data are also part of this discussion. Pictured below (on the left) is Marilyn Rhyne (Co-Chair); Margie Culton (Co-Chair); Jackie Peterson; Christine Sullivan; Carole Barber; Helen Johnson; Brenda Beers and Jeanne Lincoln. Closing Thoughts: "The human race has one really effective weapon, and that is laughter." - Mark Twain Team Sunshine
