| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2016 | 49 Sun Lakers at Canyon Lanes We are off and running! Our new winter league is now in the fourth week and all 24 teams are doing their best. As I write this article there are only seven games separating the first and last teams. We all know that any of our teams could jump into first with 26 more weeks to go. Why do some teams do better than others? Well I have been thinking about this and now believe it could be in the name. Right now the team "Wood Choppers" are in first place. That makes sense now that I think about it. They chopped the rest of the teams down. I think that I am onto something. Gordon Wood, Yvonne Wood, Marilyn Palaeo and Ed Sterger know how to name a team. Then we have "Sweepers Creepers" tied for second with four other teams. They are creepy and everyone is afraid of them. Gail Stormes, Marlene Garman, Larry Stormes and Andy Toro. Then we have "Chasing Ten," you guys are in last place and are now chasing 24. What is in a name? Maybe it really doesn't matter but I am calling a team meeting to change our team name. "Lightning Strikes", that tells it all. We are close to last place and no wonder, everyone knows lightning never strikes the same place twice. We just need a stronger name. Then the rest better watch out. Andy Toro has High Scratch Series for the men with 760, Ken Smelter has High Scratch Game with 268, Barbara Semic has High Scratch Series for the women with 548, and Patti Brickner has High Scratch Game with 197. Quote: Men of character know their limitations – but don't accept them. Sun Lakers Monday at Moreno Valley Bowl We started our 32-week fall-winter league on Sept. 12 and have elected our officers, President Herk Ranieri, Vice President Wanda Ranieri, and secretary-treasurer Connie Matty. We welcome back Sun Lakers Jerry Campbell, Bob Hall, Diane Spence, Howard Esterson, and Joan Allen, plus newcomers, Sue Sloan, Celie Castro, Ernie Castro and Luki Deasis. We currently have 11 teams with a "bye team" as team 12. When a team is scheduled to bowl against the bye team, they must have a total score within 40 pins of their current team average. It sounds easy, but not so much. Just ask team 3, the "Recycled Teens." They were the summer league champions with Dot Lucas and Jim McCallum and added Herk and Wanda Ranieri, both great bowlers to their team for the winter league, but they lost all four points to the "bye team!" We have seen some very nice scores in our first four weeks. Women's high scratch games: Sue Finta 198, Micki Elsing 187, Celie Castro 187. Women's high scratch Series: Sue Sloan 493, Joan Allen 490, Micki Elsing 480. Men's high scratch games: Bob Mc Lean 247, Tom Tykodi 233, John Shubert 224. Men's high scratch series: Bob Mc Lean 664, Luki Deasis 591, Bud Fowler 581. High handicap games and series require four weeks results before they are shown on our league sheets. Some highs, so far, are: Women's high series with handicap: Dottie Lucas 718, Joan Allen 712, Sue Finta 678 and Lisa Park 662 Men's high series with handicap: Herk Ranieri 744, Bud Fowler 740, and Bob Mc Lean 739 We look forward to more high scores as "Sand-Bagging" is over! Good luck and high scores to all. The best is yet to come!
