Where did the time go? We all say that and wonder what happened to the year 2016 — it is almost over. Of course, as we get older the time has a way of traveling at the speed of sound. We now find ourselves near the end of the year. Practically every district has a Christmas party or a holiday party after Christmas Day. The parties are an attempt to get their district residents together to celebrate the holidays. There are dinner dances, brunches, potluck dinners and breakfasts presented for your enjoyment. Usually there will be fine food and great entertainment. A lot of hours are expended by committees and Delegates planning and staging the events. First the date and place must be decided. Then — what kind of an event do we want to present to our residents? Finally, decisions are made about the selection of food, what kind of entertainment should be employed and what will the format be. Then what happens? Sometimes the attendance is so low one wonders whether we should stage the event or cancel. After all of the effort put into the party, we receive 30 or 40 reservations! NOT WORTH THE EFFORT! I AM URGING YOU TO SUPPORT YOUR DISTRICT'S EFFORT TO CELEBRATE THE HOLIDAYS WITH YOUR NEIGHBORS AND FRIENDS. We realize there are a lot of things influencing your decisions. Family affairs come into play, friends want you to attend their events, the Recreation Department stages holiday events and are competitive with the districts. We ask you to make that extra effort and join in the fun. Remember when you were a kid, you couldn't wait for Christmas to arrive — it wasn't always the gifts, it was the family getting together — you saw relatives you hadn't seen since last Christmas. Your extended family here at Sun Lakes is hoping to see you at the district party — don't disappoint them! DELEGATE ASSEMBLY REPORT Joe Formino, Chairman, District Delegate Assembly 6 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2016 | On Nov. 10, Sun Lakes Marines and Friends will have a morning colors ceremony at 8 am sharp to honor the 241st Birthday of the Marines Corps and to pay tribute to all veterans on Veterans Day Nov. 11.
