PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN
Over the past year, how many of you have seen that beautiful
American flag that has been flying on the mountain directly west of
The Lodge?
When my wife and I first noticed the flag, we speculated as to
who placed it up there. The first flag was relatively small until it was
replaced by a slightly larger one about three months ago. That flag
was quickly shredded from the wind, which prompted several of
my neighbors and I to begin planning the climb to replace it with
a larger one.
The mystery of who made the climb and the reason why he did it
was solved last week. The resident's name is Rafael Hidalgo.
Rafael and his wife Lupita live two doors from our home at the
end of Furyk. They immigrated from Costa Rica 38 years ago and
became citizens of America in 1989.
When Rafael and I engage in conversation, his first comment is
always: "How great America is and how lucky he and his family are
to be living here."
When I discovered who put up the flag, (I could see he and two
of his grandchildren hiking up the mountain) I knew immediately
why! His love of America. Enjoy seeing that beautiful flag flying in
the wind. As Rafael always concludes "God Bless America." ~ Jack
