38 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | DECEMBER 2016 | 'TIS THE SEASON For white fields of silence and celebrations of earth, Of the Festival of Lights and a holy birth; For journeys afar and hugs from mothers, Greetings joyous shouted to others; For sprigs of green and jolly elves, Menorahs bright on window shelves; For traditions old and friendships new, Embellished trees that lean askew; For hearthside chats, messages of cheer, Hymns of praise and memories dear; For faith and hope and humble mangers, Charity extended to former strangers; For carolers that sing and dreidels that spin, Love – that radiates from deep within; And for the prayers of peace, worlds apart, That are the many beats of a single heart. …mls Join us on the first Mondays of the month in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room at 3 pm. For information, call Roger Smith 769-2808. Int'l Culture Club Here we are at the very end of the year, 2016, and it seems as though time has simply flown by. We have enjoyed our monthly dinner dances, our bands, and the companionship of our members. The second evening in December is our closeout event of the year and we do a very special evening and dinner buffet where the club subsidizes a portion of the meal cost from our treasury to our members. Even though the restaurant raised all of their prices during this past year we were able to hold our cost down to our members by subsidizing. We build our treasury from sales of the 50/50 raffle where half of the proceeds go to one of our food bank charities and the balance into our treasury. You can find a current treasury report posted in the back of the room. Starting in 2017 we will have to raise our meal cost by $2 pp making it $24 for members and $27 for guests. Doors to the Ballroom will open at 5:30 pm, music by Sophisticats starts at 6 pm and the dinner buffet by table call will start at 6:30 pm. Our menu for the evening is strip loin carving station with Cabernet and horseradish sauces, champagne salmon, garlic roasted mashed potatoes and a squash medley. The dinner salad of mixed greens with dried cranberries/mushrooms/red onions and ranch and raspberry vinaigrette dressings will be table served along with warm dinner rolls and butter. Dessert of strawberry cream parfait along with coffee and water is also table served, and iced tea can be found on a side board. Sign-ups on the first Thursday afternoon at 3 pm. Dance is always on the second Thursday of every month. $22 for members and $25 for non-resident guests (the raise goes into effect in January 2017). Member dues of $25 pp for next year can be paid anytime. Anybody wanting to join for next year can do so in December and come to our party, getting an extra month of membership. If you find that you cannot attend after signing up, if you call Carol Hurt at 769-1315 by Sunday afternoon she can refund your check. Call her for a take-out meal box if you cannot attend last minute. Info: Diane Hofler 769-9308. Low Vision Support Group We are still having monthly group meetings. We are inviting different speakers each month so the information is new and the newest technology — so come and join us!
