| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | DECEMBER 2016 | 3 By Doug Swenson FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK I am starting this month's President's Letter by offering my apology for an incorrect statement I made in last month's letter. I stated that the Board had approved a 2017 HOA rate of $240 which was not correct. At the time that I wrote the letter, the Board had tentatively approved this rate but the final approval would take place in the Open session on Oct. 26. Between the time the $240 was set and the October meeting, several items came to light that the majority of the Board felt needed to be funded for 2017. In light of these findings, the current HOA rate of $245 will remain unchanged for 2017. You may have already received your copy of the new budget and if not it will arrive very soon. The Master Board will not be meeting in Open session in December so the next Open session will be Jan. 25, 2017. Over the past several months, the use of social media has been a topic of discussion many times. As we move forward in this time of mass communication, these forms are being used by our residents more and more. I understand the need by some people to use these communication tools but have one major problem. Several negative thinking people are using them to put out false information. Since they are against something that is or has happened, they put out information that would lead the reader to believe that something bad has happened. I have no problem with people discussing their views on issues since that is the American way, but I feel that if they are going to state facts, the least they could do would be to verify what has happened before going out on social media and making rash and inaccurate statements. If you read something that doesn't sound right having to do with the HOA, please contact your district delegate or a Master Board member to verify before you move on. I will now get down from my soapbox. I know it will come as a surprise to some of you but every year at this time, the winter holidays occur on our calendar. For many of us, this is the busiest time of the year with many parties and other activities taking place in a short period of time. Remember to pace yourself so that your health is not impacted by the constant going from activity to activity. Luckily, we live in an area that has decent weather so for normal local travel, we have no problems. For those of you who are traveling out of state to areas with colder climates or have company coming from them, the weather can be a major issue. Please make sure all factors are taken into consideration before you depart so you have a safe trip and fun visit. On behalf of the Master Board may I wish you a very happy holiday. We look forward to serving you in 2017 and will work diligently to keep Sun Lakes Country Club the best place to live.
