16 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JANUARY 2017 | Fri., Jan. 13, 10 am - 12 pm, Main Clubhouse Ballroom Please join the VNA as they present Strategic Futuring and to hear and meet Priscilla Rose, author of The Future Belongs to Those Who Dare. Come and discover how you can become the architect of your future in your senior years. Today there are senior life transitions that can last 20-30 years after the required or assumed retirement age. Society, education, and companies have not paid much attention to these years. Without focus and tools to define a future, a feeling of despondency, anxiety or uncertainty can lead to professional and personal paralysis. Having become aware of these challenges, due to our own personal experiences, we in The Genysys Group have designed a specific life- planning program, Strategic Futuring for those in this Senior Transition period of life. Since we live longer, we want to remain vital. Steven Covey once said, "The key to life is not accumulation. It is contribution." SWITCHBACK CONCERT: Sat., March 25, 7 to 8:30 pm, doors open at 6 pm, $15 pp. Switchback is the award-winning duo of Brian FitzGerald and Martin McCormack. Switchback draws on traditional Celtic music and original Americana songs that reflect their Irish heritage and Midwestern roots. Playing an exciting mix of mandolin, guitar, and bass, their harmonies have won them comparisons to famous duos, such as the Louvin Brothers, Everly Brothers, & Simon and Garfunkel. Music Connection Magazine said: "The words 'American Roots & Celtic Soul' only begin to describe this unusual act, whose vocal prowess is as pure as it is unique. There is no denying the stunning vocal blends that are achieved by this duo." Their Celtic music is authentically Irish, drawing praise from such traditional players as Matt Molloy of the group the Chieftains. Ireland has taken Switchback to her heart, with performances at art centers throughout the country and appearances on RTE (Raidió Teilifís Éireann). At the same time, their music is modern Celtic, with songs capturing the Irish of today as accurately as the Pogues and singer-songwriters like Christy Moore. But to pay attention only to the Celtic side of Switchback would be a disservice to the unique American roots music crafted by FitzGerald and McCormack. None other than the Grammy Award- winning producer Lloyd Maines chose to work with Switchback in producing three of their albums and considers the duo one of the most important acts playing Americana music today. This will be a show that you won't want to miss out on so make sure you get your tickets early as they will go fast. The Art of Longevity Sticks Strong "Healthy" Body, Calm "Beautiful" Life. Longevity Sticks class is alive and well! Come join us Mondays at 10:30 am at the South Clubhouse. It is a combination of exercises (Western and Eastern sciences) developed to prevent disease and to protect our health. Exercises are simple and broken into 12 movements using a wooden 1" dowel. Movements promote breathing, balance, and stretching while standing (and without having to get on the floor). We do two sets per class and are always done by 11:30. Please feel free to come by and see if this exercise class may benefit you. We will provide a handout explaining the exercise movements and their benefits. We also have a few extra sticks if you want to try it out. It's always nice to meet and get to know our fellow Sun Lakers.
