As we look ahead to the brand new year we rarely think of the new songs we would like to sing when going to a karaoke event. Of course if you are a person who is always looking for the next best place to sing a song at karaoke, a new song is always something you are on a constant search for. Sometimes you dig deeper beyond the big hits to surprise the folks at a karaoke venue. You may have rediscovered an old favorite. At our "Fun Times Karaoke" with Barb Miller, Rosie Ingalls and D.J. Blast, you are sure to find many songs that other karaoke shows may not have in their digital music library. Some of the songs that come to mind… not typically offered by most other Karaoke outfits are songs like "Norman" by Sue Thompson, "Waterloo" by Stonewall Jackson, "That Ragged Old Flag" by Johnny Cash, or possibly "Please Mr. Sun" by Tommy Edwards. These are wonderful songs but are rarely found. You may also find that most karaoke shows may not offer as extensive a Elvis Presely song catalogue to choose from. We are also aware of the fact that many of you like to sing songs from your own karaoke discs. In the past, people who attended Don McKinnon's Karaoke Shows enjoyed the fact that Don could load his computer with songs from the CDs that people would bring to his shows to sing from. We too have this option for those of you who feel a little nervous that D.J. Blast may not have the exact right version in his music library. We understand and agree that the right version of the song makes all the difference in how a performance of that song comes off. At our Fun Times Karaoke shows we encourage folks to let D.J. Blast know well in advance of their turn at the mic, that they have their own disc so that he may transfer that song into his computer and therefore keep the pace and flow of the show going uninterrupted. If you have not been out to our Sun Lakes karaoke gatherings, why not make a new year's resolution to join us at our next events? So far in 2017 we are scheduled for Sat., Jan. 14 in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom and on Fri., Jan. 27 look for us at The South Clubhouse. Our shows are from 5:30 to 9 pm. We sometimes run a little longer depending on the venue. So bring in the new year with Barb, Rosie & D.J. Blast. You may have a new song or just come out and listen, dance or make new friends. We will leave a mic on for you. Oh, and by the way, before we forget, "Happy New Year!" 24 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JANUARY 2017 | Chorale Attention all singers who want to make beautiful music with like-minded friends and neighbors.
