FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JANUARY 2017 11 By Len Tavernetti, Board President I remember as a small child going to the grocery store and lugging bags out to the car. There were no carts. Now when I go to a grocery store the parking lot is littered with carts. Shoppers couldn't bother to push to a corral 10 feet away. I do it for them. I remember being instructed by my mother that if I dropped, spilled or dirtied something, I cleaned it up. My mother is gone, but I know she is still watching. So, even if I didn't drop or spill the food or papers or track dirt on the floor, I pick it up or clean it. I expect most of our residents had the same training and follow the same practices. This is why at the December Open Board meeting I balked at a request for the HOA to spend $40,000 each year for additional janitorial services for the few who do not follow this practice. This wonderful community is our home. The main reason it looks so attractive is because we take care of it. Yes, we hire landscapers and janitors to help us. But they adhere to the standards we set for ourselves. Years ago, when I was first on the Landscape Committee, a resident came to our meeting complaining about a weed (one) in his yard. I told him to pull it and he replied that our regulations did not allow homeowners to pull out a weed. Let me set the record straight. We can do what our mothers taught us. We can clean our own messes. If we spill our free popcorn, we can pick it up. If we clean the basin in the restroom with a paper towel, we can walk to the trash can and deposit it there. If we see a dying plant gasping for water, we can get a cup of water and give it a drink or call for assistance. Do it today and make our mothers proud. Observations from the Board I MAY BE OLD FASHIONED Thanks to Committee Members By Claudeen Diaz, Board Chief Financial Officer Happy New Year. We are now getting ready for 2017. Changes are all around us. We have a new president, hopefully lots of rain, and most of all good friendships. In our own community changes are happening. Let us not forget all the time and effort that was spent by our committee members over the years. These committee members have insured that we look today the way we planned, the reason most of us came to Four Seasons. This community of ours is beautiful, maintained and financially in very good shape. The time and effort of those committee members have been our back bone. Thank you to all past and present committee members.
