52 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JANUARY 2017 Billiards for Fun What an amazing year we had in the Billiards for Fun Group! Our weekly play is well-attended at both sessions, and the quarterly in- house 2016 tournaments are completed. Everyone in the group is honing their individual skills, as they play each week and practice on Saturdays. Overall, we not only have a really wonderful group of men and women, but they are really good pool players too. In November we held our last in-house quarterly tournament. Since we have two sessions, the winners of the morning session end up playing best two out of three games with the winners of the afternoon session. It was such a fun competition, and everyone that stayed to watch was impressed with the skills these players exhibited. The winners were: First place partnership: Mike Olsen and Dale Weekley; Second place partnership: Rocket Spinosa and Pete Antoine. (See photos above of our winners.) Congratulations to the winners for a great competitive spirit and well-deserved wins. Drop by the Billiards Room and check out the Billiards for Fun Group plaque. All the 2016 winners are displayed, and now we're on to 2017! On Dec. 6 we held our annual holiday party in the Game Room. It was well-attended, we had wonderful food (see above photo), the gift exchange and billiard knowledge game to end the fun night. If you are interested in joining a great group of really wonderful people, we meet for formal play on Tuesday, with the morning session beginning at 11 am and ending at 1 pm or the afternoon session which begins at 1 pm. Your name could be on the plaque in 2017. Or the informal practice session is on Saturday from 11 am to 1 pm. Come join us! ~ Eileen Gilbert-Antoine This year has gone by fast hasn't it? The last of our tournaments for 2016 are upon us as is our end of year get together and celebration. Watch the bulletin board for information and sign up for club members. Kenny Paine and Larry Rice continue to be champions but that just gives the rest of us our performance goals for the next year. In a field of 11 players Larry figuratively "ran the table" defeating all contenders including those considered to be our best like Ray Windhorn, Del Lyles, Dewey Allen and Kenny Paine. Larry was undefeated by all and congratulations to him. There was a large turnout of 14 for the 9-ball tournament this month and Rick Loney won six of six games — wow. Larry Rice graduating from the losers column would have nothing of it and won game one of the finals thus leveling the playing field to one loss each. Larry pulled a rabbit out of his hat and pulled off the magic of a four ball combo to take the match. It was great entertainment for those of us watching, congratulations again goes out to Larry Rice.
