| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | January 2017 | 15 With the beginning of this new year, the members of the Emergency Preparedness Committee wish for all of us here at Hemet Four Seasons a safe and prosperous year! JANUARY TIP OF THE MONTH: Now is the time to review your personal preparations for the coming new year. Start with yourself and those in your household. Have you had current inoculations ( flu, tetanus,(especially!) shingles, etc.) and medical tests? Have you had your current health evaluated, and if you are taking prescription drugs, have they expired or are the dosages still appropriate? Do you have a medical information envelope with a list of: prescriptions, medical history, living will and health power of attorney, and an emergency notification form for every resident in your home--and is all of that information up-to-date? And, is this packet readily available for First Responders or housemates? These forms are included in the Household Packets available through our Street Captains. If you haven't received one yet, look forward to getting one soon through a visit by one of our Street Captains. Better yet, become a street captain yourself! Do you have a Will and Trust up-to-date and properly worded and witnessed for your state of residence. Do you have a current inventory of your personal items for insurance claim purposes? Have you checked your fire, carbon monoxide, and intruder alarm systems (batteries, settings)? Are there hazardous or flammable materials in living spaces? Do you have a fire evacuation plan for your home and correctly charged "ABC" fire extinguishers near your kitchen and garage? There will be some new directions coming for us as we continue our efforts at developing our CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) program. In an effort to preserve our progress made so far, yet respond to the actual resources we have at any moment, we need to adjust several aspects of our approach and organization. We will continue to recruit more members and we will continue to have Preparedness and Safety meetings and training sessions on the fourth Monday, in the Lodge, at 6:30. (So set-up your DVR's for your favorite show that might be on then, and come by and see what we are up to!) We all should remember the slogan of the '60s, "If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem!" For CERT or Street Captains questions call Bob Hagen at (951) 219-0442.
