From the Rules Chair – Tom Johnson When there is uncertainty about your options in a stroke play round and it cannot be resolved, the rules allow you to play two balls. To do this you must advise your scorer and/or your competitors that you are playing a second ball and which ball you want to count. Before turning the scorecard in you must get a ruling to determine which ball will count in your score. It is essential that you declare that you are doing this under the rules before you initiate play with the second ball. In a situation where you feel you have relief, but other players do not agree, you can play two balls and wait until later for the ruling. If you go ahead without relief, you likely will have a higher score. If you take the relief and it turns out to be wrong, you will have penalty strokes added to your score. Always be sure that you are within the rules before you pick up or move a ball, making sure to mark the position. From the Handicap Chair - Lynn Smith Q: A player's Handicap Index is much higher than how you see him perform on the golf course. What do you do? A: The Handicap Committee has the responsibility of making certain that each player has a Handicap Index reflecting potential ability. The Committee should review the player's score file, possibly play a round with him, educate him or her as needed, and if necessary, issue a modification/adjustment. A Handicap Committee has the ultimate authority to adjust a Handicap Index under any circumstance that it feels necessary to do so. The management/adjustment can be made on GHP Online Club. The adjustment becomes effective when entered and the information is transmitted. The date entered by the committee is the end date of the modification. It will be identified with the letter M, reflecting that the Handicap Committee has modified the Handicap Index.
