| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | January 2017 | 3 Last month, as we closed out another eventful year here in our Four Seasons community, we took a little peek into 2017, and realized that we already had the beginnings of a full calendar of activities and events. Yet, at the same time, we probably realized that there really is not much of which we can be absolutely certain. We all make plans, have hopes, dreams and expectations. Although we prefer to be idealistic, our life experience tells us that we must accept reality. It has been said that life is what happens while we are making plans. So, we have become accustomed to the fact that just about the only thing of which we can be absolutely certain… is that we are facing uncertainty. This hit very close to home last month when we learned that, after more than ten years of volunteering within our community in a variety of capacities, the current President of our Board of Directors, Greg Rockvam was resigning! Needless to say, this news hit us pretty hard, especially since Greg was settling in so well into his leadership role as our Board President. Unless you have experienced being an active committee member, chairperson, or a Board member, one cannot fully appreciate just how much time and work these roles entail. We sincerely thank Greg for all that he has done to benefit our community, and wish him God speed as he pursues other responsibilities. Change is inevitable (except perhaps from vending machines) so we must learn to adapt. Your Board has evaluated the available options to address the vacancy created by Greg's resignation. Because we are only three months away from our annual election, we have opted to carry the vacancy until such time as it can be filled through the election process in April. The Board Officer succession determines that the Vice President will therefore assume the role of President until new Board Officers are established in April upon the conclusion of the election. Protocol dictates that, in addition to the upcoming three Board members whose two-year terms expire this year, an additional seat will thus be open to fill the remaining year of Greg's term. Consequently, there will be four seats on the Board of Directors to fill. As much as we try to pursue and achieve our aspirations, sometimes things just don't work out the way we had hoped. And, when things don't go as we had anticipated, we have learned to adapt and overcome our disappointments. That's because we humans are very resilient creatures, and we generally find a way to make the best of just about any situation. Here in our Four Seasons community, we have an additional asset that helps us in this regard…our good friends and neighbors. We are truly blessed to have the support and companionships we enjoy in this wonderful community. So, we'd like to close this message with an inspirational quote from the late Walt Whitman - "Keep your face always toward the sunshine - and shadows will fall behind you." And, may you all enjoy a very happy and prosperous New Year! Message From the Board of Directors Sincerely, and on behalf of your Board of Directors, Ken, Jim, Tony, Gene and Don, Russ Brown, President
