SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | JANUARY 2017 19 NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH HAS SOME NEW FACES FOR THE NEW YEAR I have really enjoyed being the Neighborhood Watch Chairperson over the past year. We have seen new captains/ co-captains, SDV first Neighborhood Watch Community Block Party and an increase in the communication of crimes/suspicious persons. Informational meetings that included both the Chief of Police/Fire and the Mayor were a success along with the passage of Measure U. Hopefully this Measure brings a better sense of safety within the City of Hemet and our community as our emergency services are expanded. As your newly elected HOA Board member I have had to resign as the Chairperson. But, I do this with complete confidence as I pass the baton over to Steven Day (Chairperson) and Tom Naylor (Vice- Chairperson). They are still looking for a coordinator to help round out the Neighborhood Watch list of officers. And of course, volunteer captains/co-captains are needed for some of the remaining streets that are not covered now. Please contact Steve Day at 805-990-6315 (stevehday@gmail.com) or Tom Naylor (tnaylor4@roadrunner. com) if interested. As the Board Liaison to the EPAC Committee, I will still remain involved in the safety of this community. Thank you again for all you do to make this community SAFE. ~ Lorraine K. Brealey, Vice-President, HOA Board member. VETERANS AND FRIENDS On November 11 and 18, the Veterans and Friends held a Food Drive and collected over 300 pounds of food which they donated to the Hemet VFW. Al Hocevar, Joe Juchno and Ed Parris loaded up Al's pick-up and Joe's car to transport the food to the VFW Lodge on Florida. The VFW members then gave boxes of groceries to needy families so that they could prepare a Thanksgiving Dinner. The Vets also held a Toy Drive on December 9 and 16 and distributed the toys to Hemet kids who otherwise wouldn't have gotten any presents for Christmas. The Veterans and Friends Group just recently obtained non-profit 501C3 status so that any donations will be tax deductible. That means that the group can solicit more donations from businesses because the businesses will get tax deductions. And the group itself can now donate directly to its own causes and not have to go through the VFW. The next thing coming up is the annual Applebee's Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser on Saturday, February 25! Save the date! Club & Group News
