February around the Lodge is still a bit turbulent with "flex-checks" and the unknown, regarding the Ballroom fixes and renovations. Thank you all for flexing with us. We know how challenging for planning it can all be! Soon all of the Ballroom projects will be done and we'll enjoy a revamped facility. February will also be a time for preparation for many of the upcoming year's events, such as the always well-attended, Amphitheater Concert Series. Mark Lassen, Captain of the Amphitheater Production Group, took his band of merry-men (and me) to the huge La Mirada "Concert Share" event, where hundreds of bands and acts interview and present their media packages. Mark's hard working group is putting together quite the line-up for perhaps the best series to date. Check the 2017 Annual Events Calendar below and make a note not to miss these memorable concerts! As I mentioned last month, I am waiting with bated breath for the upcoming Social Committee event in which a professional theater company will perform the thought-provoking and subtly humorous play, "Roses in December." I loved the dialogue exchanged between the characters when reading this play. It should be even more impactful on the stage. What an elegant touch Social Committee added to the evening by including a coffee bar and confections to the theater ticket price of only $15 each. It's wonderful to be able to go to the theater and never have to get on the freeway and fight the traffic. The date is Saturday, Feb. 18 at 6:30 pm. Tickets may be purchased at the Lodge front desk. If you like to travel, and so many of you do, then have we got an Expo for you! Once again we have the pleasure of hosting numerous travel companies, including cruise ships with great deals, local excursion companies with day tours, river boats (Wine Club just went on one that they found at the last Travel Expo… and boy, did they have fun!) and more. The various exhibitors will showcase speakers during parts of the Expo and lots of people will be there to answer questions and share their best packages. Light refreshments will be served, along with raffles and give-aways. There is no cost to attend and everyone is welcome. The Travel Expo is Tuesday, Feb. 21 from 12 to 4 pm in the Lodge Ballroom. Here's a romantic suggestion to "kill two birds with one stone:" think about taking your sweetie on a special trip, come to the Expo to figure out all of the details and then stay for dinner at the Bistro for "Taco Tuesday"… nothing says "love" quite like tacos! Speaking of love, the Veteran's Roll of Honor Club, will be hosting a presentation about the ever-loved Boeing C-17 Globemaster military transport aircraft, which of course, commonly performs tactical and strategic airlift missions. This is one incredibly interesting plane, so if you are a military buff, an aircraft buff or are just looking to hang out with some pretty awesome veterans, we'll see you in the Ballroom on George Washington's birthday, Feb. 22, from 9 to 11 am. Well, that's all I have to catch you up on for February. In honor of Valentine's Day, let's be especially loving and sensitive to our neighbors that might need a little extra TLC. I dare us to be guilty of the most rapid-fire "random acts of kindness" ever seen anywhere, in any community! It could be a fun dare!
