28 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | FEBRUARY 2017 STAG: Senior Transportation Assistance Group Interest Group Robert Frost wrote "good fences make good neighbors." We hope through STAG to build good fences with good gates that all can travel through unencumbered by age or disability. To build these gateways we need the people from Four Seasons to attend our meetings and voice their concerns. STAG meetings are the third Thursday of each month. On Feb. 16, it will be at noon in the Lodge. We will have a speaker, Richard Smith, executive director of Living Partnership, a charity concerned with the care and housing of the aged. The next two meetings will be on March 16 and April 20. We are also planning an ice cream social – an evening meeting with the date to be announced. That would be a good time for Kaiser members to assemble and voice their needs for getting to the many Kaiser facilities we use. I hope to have a speaker from Kaiser to address those needs. Plans for a medical bus route, sponsored by the city, from Beaumont to Redlands Target Shopping Center and Kaiser Redlands, have been delayed. Beaumont Transportation Director Elizabeth Gibbs said she hopes it will be in operation sometime this month. Currently we ask that you use only the recommended taxi list. Call me for the list at (951) 845-8477. Richard and I have been named senior transportation advisors to the T-NOW, the public transportation advocacy group of the Riverside Transit Agency. We have been unable to set up a volunteer driver service for residents because of insurance problems. We're still looking for an insurance company to support the program. We are also still seeking signatures on a petition to have Kaiser open a facility in the Pass Area. We have over 300 signatures from Four Seasons now and want more. We also hope to start getting signatures from Pass residents outside Four Seasons. If you are interested in helping, blank petition forms are available at the Lodge desk. We have one more free excursion to the Morongo Casino on Feb. 13, with two seats open. We're talking with the casino about having more of the popular trips in 2017. Soon there will be a sign-up sheet for an excursion to Polly's Pies Restaurant in Hemet with an opportunity to browse through the newly renovated Hemet Mall, and a trip April 10 to the Cabazon Outlet Stores. Be sure to take advantage of the weekly Dial-A-Ride shopping trip every Tuesday from the Lodge to Albertson's, Ross, Walmart and Kohl's. It leaves at 10 am and returns at 12:30 pm — plenty of time to have your hair and nails done, pick up a prescription, shop for groceries or have a lunch date. We hope this trial service will continue to have enough riders to keep it in business. ~ Brenda and Richard Teeman Birding Club Interest Group The Four Seasons Birding Club welcomes beginning and experienced birders to start or hone our bird identification skills. The Club's main activity is monthly bird walks along Four Seasons' beautiful nature trails, which follow native riparian woodlands and preserve endangered habitat. Endangered species such as the Least Bell's Vireo (pictured above) have been observed from the trails along with other interesting species, some widespread and some restricted to the riparian habitat. We will keep lists of species identified on the bird walks and of total species identified in Four Seasons. We will also take field trips to local birding hot spots, discuss backyard bird feeding, and learn about other clubs, regional listings, birding gear, identification challenges, and on-line birding resources such as rare bird alerts. ~ Steve Edelman
