FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | FEBRUARY 2017 49 On Dec. 10, the pickleball family had a pristine tournament. We played men against each other and women did the same. Partners were selected by the luck of the draw so anyone could possibly win. It was fast paced and filled with social interaction on and off the courts. We had a wonderful warm Christmas luncheon prepared by Smitty's beautiful bride Kathy. The holiday toasts and good cheer flowed. Games were played and many people met new friends. We all agreed this will be a yearly experience. It was a very special time for a great group of people at Four Seasons. Our four winners are: Mens First Place, Rick von Kleist; Mens Second Place, Garrett Warman; Womens First Place, Janelle von Kleist; Womens Second Place, Julie Stayner. Congrats to our champs! We are still out on the courts playing in the wind and cold. We play Mondays through Thursdays and Saturdays at 8 am. New beginners time with instruction from others starting in February will be on Thursdays at 1 pm. Come on out and see what the smiles and laughter are all about! Keep pickling! Last month we got rained out. Good for the drought; bad for outdoor racquet play. But sometime in late spring, we will have the brand new indoor tennis court at the new recreation center. With the indoor court we will be able to play without concern for the weather or the wind, but because of the roof, Lyle won't be able to lob so darn much. For those of you interested in watching the best tennis players in the world, now is the time to buy your tickets to the BNP Paribas Open Tennis Tournament in Indian Wells from March 6 to the 19th. It's a great event even if you don't really love tennis, and the facility has undergone some major renovations. Give it a try this year. By the way, we aren't really getting an indoor tennis court. I was just checking to see if anybody actually reads these articles, so calm down. Speaking of the new recreation center, we are encouraging club members and other residents to vote for naming it "The Courts." That name would be consistent with what we understand KHOV has in mind. The FSBRC Committee leadership has engaged in several meetings with KHOV representatives to make our recommendations regarding the height of the fences, adequate lighting, court surface (I prefer memory foam), storage space, and more. We look forward to the formal naming of the Recreation Center as "The Courts" and initiating playing on the new (outdoor) courts in mid-May 2017. Then the other racquet sports can also look forward to additional courts for their games. Everybody's gonna win! Outdoor weather permitting, the monthly Play Days will continue to be scheduled for the last Saturday of each month, beginning at 8:30 am. The Play Days are open to all residents and their guests.
