Have you ever casually sung a song to yourself only to discover that it was from an old TV show, movie or even a commercial? Many of us recall "The Pepsodent Toothpaste" commercial jingle… "You'll wonder where the yellow went, when you brush your teeth with Pepsodent." That jingle was actually the inspiration for a song called, "Who Wrote The Book Of Love" by The Monotones. There are countless others that come to mind: "At Last" by Etta James for State Farm Insurance. "At Last" was a song long forgotten and had it not been brought back it would still be in the "lost song forever" category. You might also recall the Ajax Laundry Detergent commercial with the jingle and lyrics, "Stronger than dirt, new Ajax laundry detergent is stronger than dirt." Those "Stronger Than Dirt" lyrics were added to the end of The Doors song "Touch Me." It's this kind of reminder at times that get us thinking of songs to sing at our Sun Lakes Karaoke shows with Barb Miller, Rosie Ingalls and D.J. Blast. Very often at these shows you may see on the big screen images of old TV shows, commercials, celebrities and movies. It can be a real nostalgia trip for many and a fun experience for most if you watch TV shows like "Dancing With The Stars," "The Voice," Glee," "American Idol" or "America's Got Talent" to name a few. These shows will very often include songs from all eras that evoke a need for many of us to give those tunes a try at Karaoke. So why not set your schedule and date books for our next Karaoke show? In February you can join us just once in the Ballroom on Sat., Feb. 11 from 5:30 to 9:30 pm. This is your chance "At Last" to quote the title of Etta James' hit song and try that song rolling around in your head out on a hot microphone. We will be looking for you soon and we will keep a microphone on for you. 24 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | FEBRUARY 2017 | Chorale The Sun Lakes Chorale is off and running, preparing for our Spring Concert, called "Songs of Inspiration," which we will present the weekend of May 5.
