| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | FEBRUARY 2017 | 57 Pickleball Club Our club closed a very successful year as 2016 saw many new members picking up the game. We continue to enjoy play at various times during the week as the weather dictates. Winter brings more afternoon times to take advantage of the Pass Area's "balmy" days. We look forward to the fellowship our sport provides as more and more visitors and guests join in the fun. Over the Christmas season we met players from the Northwest and the Bay Area who were in Sun Lakes to visit family and brought their enthusiasm for pickleball to our courts as well. The National Pickleball Association has a long tradition of appointing ambassadors who are charged with representing the sport in a geographic region. Our own Nick Arico serves part of Southern California in that capacity. Nick has been away on business for several months, and we look forward to his return in the new year. We continually see how all of our members are great ambassadors, welcoming new and experienced players alike. As a heads-up to those interested in checking out the game at its highest levels, keep the dates of Nov. 4 - 12 in mind. The 2017 USAPA National Championships will be held at Palm Creek Golf & RV Resort in Casa Grande, AZ. Perhaps a caravan of Sun Lakers would like to plan a fall outing to sunny Arizona to see some of the best of the best in action. Details will arrive in mid-to-late summer as registration begins. Whatever your skill level or competitive instincts, pickleball offers a great opportunity to enjoy Sun Lakes' facilities and, most important, the friendships forged on the courts. We always offer a range of play from beginners to ??? So come on out and join the fun! See you on the courts. FYI: "Official" club play schedule is Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 8 am, but play is available throughout the week when POP Tennis play is not scheduled on our shared courts.
