14 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | February 2017 | Four Seasons residents have done it again! We asked and you responded by filling up the library with new books. Today I put several 2016 paperback books away and many 2016 hardbound books. Thank you so much. But, don't stop now, keep those 2016 books coming. Hopefully you have been asking for books as presents. Valentine's Day is another opportunity for a new book or two. Before Christmas we found out that the Hemet library sells cards for a quarter. We had just been leaving unwanted cards on the table for residents to take. Now we have a box that we fill up for downtown. There are many people who cannot afford to send cards. This allows them to join in the fun and send out all kinds of cards. Bring in birthday cards, holiday cards, anything you will be unable to use and we'll transport them downtown. The same holds true for all the calendars you receive. What a great way to help others. We now have one of the best non- fiction book sections in Four Seasons library history! We have biographies, bibliographies, comedies, tragedies, and other true stories. They are all located on the very top shelf that many of us require assistance to reach. Do not stand on anything to reach them. There is an "easy reach" located on the outside wall but it's okay to ask the front desk for help. If you have not been reading from the top shelves, give them a try. We were fortunate to have three volunteers that wanted to work with the library committee. We certainly can use the extra help. We have one more volunteer to be sanctioned by the BOD. Next month I'll welcome all three by name. In the center section, bottom shelves, you will find religious books, travel books and then a miscellaneous section that house some health books, poetry, and self-improvement books. Do peruse the shelves occasionally. We wish we had tons of space to house all subjects but that is what the downtown library is for. As of now, bring your December, January and February magazines for us to display. We have had wonderful donations of magazines lately. Thank you. Often times you can see a resident sitting in a chair relaxing with a current magazine! Remember, we display paperback books from 2012-up, and hardbound books 2006-up. On the non-fiction books we don't go by date. There are military books that are important that go way back in years. We try not to have too many duplicate biographies. We may receive many different authors writing about the same person but just keep a couple on hand. Committee member Cookie read Fool Me Once by Harlan Coben. Normally I figure out just what is going on in mystery books way too early. Not so with this exciting book. Special ops, Maya Burkett, was burying her husband, Joe, as her mind flashed back a few days. "The park — the glint of metal, the sound of gunshots, Joe falling, Maya's shirt covered in blood, stumbling through the dark, Help… please… someone, my husband." She was able to give a clear description of the assailants in the park and the hunt was on. Capt. Maya Burkett has suffered more than her fair share of tragedy. Four months earlier her sister, Claire, had been brutally murdered. Her career came to an end after it was exposed that civilian deaths were caused by her decisions and actions. And now Joe. Weeks later a "nanny-cam" is given to her as a gift. She decides to play it one night and it shows the back of a man heading to the couch where her daughter, Lily, plays. As the man turns and sits with Lily, she is looking at her dead husband, Joe. Can you believe your eyes? Now Maya starts her own investigation. There are great characters in the book and a good deal of suspense. You will find it in the hardcover section. Great reading! Until next month, Cookie Library Committee Landscape Committee The Landscape committee has started out the New Year by working with Artistic in moving forward with Phase 2 of the landscape renewal program. Phase 1 was completed last year in the fall which covered Four Seasons Blvd. from World Cup to Bogey. Phase 2 covers Four Seasons Blvd. from World Cup through the front gate. We look forward to the spring where all of us will be able to enjoy Phase 1 in full bloom. We are currently going through the approval process for Phase 2 so that planting can be done in early spring and the plants can have a good start prior to the beginning of our hot summer weather. Phase 1 and Phase 2, when completed, will cover the entire length of Four Seasons Blvd. Gopher activity throughout the community is on the increase and we are working closely with Artistic to minimize the activity as much as possible. With the help of the rains we are currently experiencing, we have been able to shut down all irrigation which provides us with a good cost savings. All homeowners are welcomed to attend our committee meetings to bring forward landscape issues or just to observe our committee at work. Our committee members are dedicated to keeping our landscape beautiful to a standard our homeowners have come to expect.
