24 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | February 2017 | Thoughts for the Month: As we rush into 2017, we pause to reflect on what 2016 has held for each of us. Much joy in the birth of new grandchildren and great-grandchildren; the special gatherings of family and friends; the gift of good health and the warmth of a wonderful caring community. Much to be thankful for. We say thank you for your continued support of this special team. (Not all Sunshiners are shown here.) Celebrations of Life: As we move into the new year, we find it difficult to review those members of our community who have passed. We were sad to learn of the passing of dear neighbors and friends: Bertha Muncie, Bob Kapeller and William Stucki. Our heartfelt condolences to these families. On another note, we often are not aware of all who pass in the Four Seasons community and we wish to express our sympathy to those families as well. Kindness Recognition: Our January Kindness Award was presented to Dave Balser (pictured left). "Dave Balser is a kind and considerate person. Members of the Four Seasons SASY Club, including our Team Sunshine Co-Chair, Margie Culton, noticed. Margie shared her observation with Jeanne Lincoln who nominated Dave for the January Kindness Award." "At a SASY Club meeting a few months ago, one of the ladies attending the class had lost a wheel from her walker. She was sharing the loss when Dave Balser stepped in. After verifying the lady would be in the area for a while, Dave said he could fix it and have it back in about 30 minutes. Dave completed the repair, as promised, and the lady was able to use her walker on her journey home. This was truly a spontaneous act of KINDNESS!" Congratulations to Dave Balser. Special Team Sunshine Information: We encourage residents to call Margie Culton (491-4058) or Marilyn Rhyne (926-9347) for Team Sunshine information. Our two Co-Chairs can direct you to the team member who can help with your concern. Thank you. A good source of information for Team Sunshine is the Caring Connection Card which can be obtained at the front desk in the Lodge. Please stop by and pick up your copy. If you know of someone who has had surgery, or is recovering from an illness, etc., please contact Trish Egan (909) 844-3852. She will send an appropriate card. This information is also passed to a calling team. They will initiate a follow-up call. Special Monthly Programs: Our 90+ birthday celebration is always a highlight as we honor these amazing individuals. Team Sunshiner, Trish Egan, was the Chair of this event. The festivities get grander each year. What a wonderful celebration for our 90+ year olds with balloons by Big Red the Clown; a special presentation by Critter Encounters; cake and other surprises for these special folks. Happy Birthday from Team Sunshine. Our February program is entitled, Willed Body Programs for Research and Science. As you consider the option of donating your body to science, know that the need is great and your gift will be valued and honored. Our special speakers are: Darrell Peterson, Doctor of Public Health, Director of Anatomical Services at Loma Linda University, "Bodies for Science," Loma Linda, CA and Nina McCoy, Senior Director of Academic Anatomical Programs, Western University of Health Sciences, Pomona, CA. Please join us on Feb. 15 at 3 pm in the Ballroom. Closing Thoughts: "Happiness lies not in the mere possession of money. It lies in the joy of achievement, in the thrill of creative effort." - Franklin D. Roosevelt, 32nd president of US (1882 - 1945). We are excited about 2017. We are looking at ways to improve our services to the community and better communication. Our focus will always be SOS (Serving Our Seniors). Team Sunshine
