28 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MARCH 2017 STAG: Senior Transportation Assistance Group Interest Group Flat-Fee Cab Fares to Kaiser STAG is in discussions with Morongo Casino to resume monthly trips there for a tour and free buffet. Morongo Marketing Director Simon Farmer said he thinks the plan will work but he needs to check with his transportation department to make sure there are no insurance problems. We'll let you know. James Foster, new chair of T-Now said our proposal for resuming the monthly trips – using Dial-A-Ride and fixed route Pass Transit buses - was outstanding and he plans to use it as a model for future proposal outlines. T-Now is the public transportation advocacy group of the Riverside Transit Agency. Four Seasons resident Jan Thorsky was a great help in preparing the proposal. STAG meets the third Thursday of each month at noon in the Lodge. The March 16 meeting will feature Beaumont Transportation Director Elizabeth Gibbs, who will explain all the bus routes in the Pass area. A question and answer session will follow her presentation. On April 20 Lisa Almilli, travel training supervisor of Riverside Transit, will talk about the Americans with Disabilities Act, Riverside Transportation and Dial-A-Ride. The May 24 meeting will be an ice cream social at 6 pm in the Lodge Ballroom. The focus of the meeting will be access to Kaiser Permanente facilities. The new agreement with Valley Cab is a help, (see story below) but a local facility would be better. We have over 500 signatures on our petition seeking a Kaiser medical office near Beaumont. We have two public transit trips coming up: On March 10 we will go to Polly's Pies Restaurant in Hemet for lunch and then to shopping in the newly renovated Hemet Mall. On April 10 the trip is to the Cabazon Outlet Mall with lunch at the food court. To sign up, call Brenda or Richard Teeman at (951) 845-8477, or email to brendarteeman@verizon.net. Remember the Dial-A-Ride trips leave at 10 am every Tuesday from in front of the Lodge to Albertson's, Ross, Walmart and Kohl's, then return at 12:30 pm. We need patrons. There is no guarantee we can keep this service if there is little ridership. Also we are seeking more STAG volunteers and speakers. Those interested please call Brenda or Richard Teeman at (951) 845-8477, or email at brendarteeman@verizon.net. ~ Brenda and Richard Teeman Kiwanis Club of Beaumont STAG has negotiated economical, flat-fee cab fares with Valley Cab in Beaumont from Four Seasons to six Kaiser medical facilities. Tamara Mitchell, office director of Valley Cab in Beaumont, said the service is to Fontana, Hemet, Moreno Valley, Palm Springs, Redlands and Riverside. The fares are: • Fontana: $35 one way, $50 round trip. • Hemet: $25 one way, $40 round trip • Moreno Valley: $25 one way, $40 round trip. • Palm Springs: $35 one way, $50 round trip. • Redlands: $25 one way, $40 round trip. • Riverside: $35 one way, $50 round trip. Mitchell said there will also be a wait-time fee for the cab drivers on round trips. She was not sure what that would be, but it expected it to be around $15 an hour. To use the discounted rate, call Valley Cab at (951) 769-3336, tell the dispatcher you are from Four Seasons and ask for the discount. The Beaumont Kiwanis Club is now meeting at Four Seasons. The meetings are in the Lodge Conference Room. The meetings start at 6:30 pm on Thursdays every Thursday except for the first Thursday of the month. Come early, order your food, and join us. Try to have your food early so you're finished eating by 6:30 pm. The Conference Room will be open to the club at 5:45 pm. Give back to the community. Beaumont Kiwanis is involved in Winter Fest, Winter Wish Program, Scholarships for high school students, sponsoring sport programs, and many other programs. We have several fundraising projects during the year, an annual pancake breakfast, and a major project is putting on the Cherry Festival Car Show at the end of May. We are looking for new members so come check us out. If you have further questions, please call Buzz Dopf at (909) 208-0880. ~ Buzz Dopf
