56 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MARCH 2017 WHY PACK WALK? You might have seen a group of dogs and their people walking on the trails or the sidewalks. That may have been some of our members on a pack walk. Why is this such a good thing for dogs and their people? Firstly, it's great fun. Both humans and canines benefit from the exercise and the chance to do a little socializing! It's great for introducing a young dog or a newly-adopted dog to the neighborhood, especially if the pup shows any signs of leash aggression or sensitivity to other dogs. Once most dogs get into their pack, they just do what canines do naturally; get in line and calmly follow the leader! Our walk times do tend to change! Currently, we are meeting for our walks in the Lodge parking lot (just outside the Salon building) on Saturday mornings at 8 am. We walk for up to 45 minutes. We meet at 4 pm on Wednesdays at the Summit and walk for 20 to 30 minutes. You don't have to be a member of the Dog Owners' Group to participate with your pup(s). All are welcome! To confirm pack walk times, please feel free to contact Martha Baumgarten. Our next D.O.G. meeting will be Wednesday, April 19 at 7 pm in RCN 3. Please contact Martha at (951) 295-7209 with any questions. ~ Martha Baumgarten D.O.G. FOUR SEASONS D.O.G. OF THE MONTH Meet Trixi! This sweetheart is just nine months old and has been with her family for just four short months. She was born in a rescue facility and spent her first five months in a cage without much human contact. When she first came home, she was so frightened, even a bird flying over during a walk made her curl up in fear. Trixi is now settled into her furever home and is very protective of her new family, D.O.G. members Tish and Jerry Unterkoefler. She is about to begin obedience training so that she can feel even happier with her new life. Trixi loves to go on long walks at least once a day. When it's time to sleep, she cuddles up between "friends" and sleeps soundly through the night. She is a loving and an indispensable part of the Unterkoefler family! ~ Martha Baumgarten Photo credit: Alex Woodcock, Alexpressions Photography
