This is the perspective of the Artist of the
Month, Diane Hatchett:
I have been in Rob Kelman's art class for the
past year and a half. I have some background in art,
but have not done much recently. When I joined, I
needed some "brushing" up. Rob was just the person
to get me back on track. There isn't a creative
technique that he hasn't explored, which makes him
the perfect instructor. When he offers advice on how
to make our art projects more interesting, vibrant or
eye-catching, he knows what he's talking about.
Although the class is called Drawing and
Sketching, the students are into all sorts of media-
pastels, pastel pencils, Prismacolor pencils,
watercolors, watercolor pencils, acrylics, ink and
all sorts of pencils for drawing. It's so fascinating
to watch how the students leap from one medium to
another, ever willing to try new ways of expressing
their creativity.
Rob is always happy to answer questions or
provide on-the-spot instruction for those times
when we hit a snag (which we all do) and can't
quite see which way to go. His solid suggestions
and encouragement make it easy for us to gain
confidence. I've been amazed at the art produced by
the class. Some of us had training along the way, but
some students came to explore whether or not they
could draw at all. They've surprised all of us as well
as themselves with what they have accomplished.
If you ever just wondered if you have any artistic
ability, our class is the perfect place for you. We're
friendly, encouraging and always willing to share
our own experiences to help you on your way...
We meet Mondays from 10 am to 12 noon and/
or Wednesdays from 6 pm to 8 pm. Just stop by.
Any questions, call Rob Kelman at (951) 992-9156.
