| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | March 2017 | 15 March's Tip: Be sure to keep your vehicle fuel filled to at least half full in case there is a major emergency or extended power outage. The last place you will want to be is in a long gas line (remember the 70's?!?) If you are new to our community, or haven't already done so, please ensure you have the current Community Patrol number (951) 202-4603 in your phone and set it up for speed-dial if you have that feature. This is especially important if you are a walking enthusiast or living alone. Don't be caught unprepared if a personal emergency or suspicious activity occurs! Last month the Safety and Preparedness meeting (formerly the Street Captains) was focused on mobilizing our CERT resources and reviewing what needs to be considered during the first four hours of a major disaster. This period is critical to the saving of lives and preservation of property. Have you really thought about this? What can you do to prepare for this? How would you respond? If you have exceptional health needs or assistance, how would you get it? "People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men [and women] stand ready to do violence on their behalf." ~ George Orwell. I am reminded of this when I think of our military and first responders whenever and wherever they are. I also think about the many veterans and retirees of these services that are our neighbors, and I want to paraphrase a slogan from WWII, "They also serve who are prepared to assist those who do stand ready to protect us." Please consider becoming a Street Captain for your block, or area! Please check the Four Seasons' calendar for the "Safety and Preparedness" meeting days and times (generally the last Monday of the month at 6:30 pm in the multipurpose room). We want to encourage anyone with a marketing/recruiting background to join us in establishing a program to achieve an even greater level of participation in community emergency preparedness. We hope to have several community awareness and education events this coming year. For more information call or email me, Bob Hagen, EPC Chairman, (951) 219-0442, spadpilot@ gmail.com.
