52 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MARCH 2017 | Sun Lakers & Friends Here it is March and we only have a few weeks left to bowl. Let's all go for a grand finish! Currently, we have several teams vying for first place. Team 1, Gimme An X (Dan and Teri Comerford, Peg Laurel and Larry Stormes) has taken over the lead. However, there are several teams knocking at the door so it's any teams league to win. Here are some results as of week 15: High Team Scratch Series goes to team 11-4 Play (Ken Smelker, Diane Spence, Gaylord Spence and Rick Shanefelt). The Team Scratch Game goes to team 4- Bipolar Rollers (Carol and Larry Ellis, Sallie Flesher and Sandy Hepburn). Men's' High Scratch Series goes Andy Toro with a 701. The Men's High Scratch Game goes to George Thiel with a HUGE 285. Women's' High Scratch Series goes to Ida Nily with a 544. The Women's' High Scratch Game goes to Karen Enderson with a 226. We are now tracking the Handicap scores so here are those results: High Team Handicap Series goes to Team 6, Split Happens (Beverly and Rich Bly, Kristi Herring and Sue Volz). The High Team Handicap game with a 977 goes to Team 1, Gimme and X (Larry Stormes, Peggy Laurel, Teri and Dan Comerford). Richard Stolarz holds men's High Handicap series with a 784. Men's High Handicap Game goes to Larry Stormes with a 293. Women's High Handicap Series goes to Beverly Bly with a 737. Women's High Handicap Game is held by Sue Torres with a 282. The pro shop at Canyon Lanes has many items for sale including new and used balls, shoes, gloves, towels etc. And of course, Norris is available for lessons to fine tune your game or aid you in interpreting lane oil patterns. Just give him a call. The Monday and Wednesday leagues have some openings. If interested, contact Teri Comerford at 760-217-9656. See you at Morongo! Sun Lakers III Well, well, well - another Wednesday under my belt which renewed my belief in the fun group of people in this league, I say this as the previous week we bowled a nice group of bowlers with one exception an opponent who made an offensive comment to my team mates regarding the quality of our bowling, even if in jest and misguided, there's no room for marginalizing ones technique or caliber of play. Onto something more tangible for my palette, have you ever tried the food at Canyon Lanes? If not it's well worth the try. Finishing off bowling with a Burger and beer is always a win. On the lighter side I was informed that last place was locked up by team Ten in the Pit, Dottie Johsz, Marlene Zandde, George Joshsz and Herb Breuer to that I say not so fast there are still plenty of games to lose, though I can't remember who told me this. Have you ever read the names of some of our team…Ho Lee Chit, 9 Is Not Enough, Grim Sleepers, Four Play, S. O. B's, Alley Gators, pretty clever bunch of bowlers. So what is scratch bowling, you'd guess it's when you scratch the top of your head after you bowl the ball and wonder what the heck was that, wrong it's you're actual score, no handicap included so when Andy Toro has a 780 scratch series and Ken Smelker has a 656 series all you can say is WOW! A team scratch series of 2179 is just plain incredible by The Green Mac team of Lawanda Rober, Mel Green, Jim McGowan and Maureen Farra. There are still a few teams short a player or two if you'd like to join please contact Teri Comerford at 760-217-9656. Sun Lakers at Canyon Lanes Only nine more weeks left in the season and we have seen many teams take over and then get knocked out of first place. As I write this article, team 15 Split Enz has jumped into first place. This is the team of Diana Reusch, Leroy Miller, Cary Chapman and Paul Gomez. There are two teams tied for second, Team 6 Sweepers Creepers and Team 4 Four Play. Sweepers Creepers with Gail Stormes, Marlene Gartman, Larry Stormes and Andy Toro. Four Play with Mitzi Taniguchi, Donna Reed, Ed Reed and Ken Smelker. Any team in the top ten spots could take over first place before the season is over. The weather so far has been rainy and cold, but some of the scores have been very hot. Season High Scores are as follows: Team Scratch Series is held by Sweepers Creepers with 2146, Team Scratch Game is held by Motion To Strike with 784, Team Handicap Series is held by Split Enz with 2813, and Team Handicap Game is held by Four Play with 1006. For the men, Rick Waters has Scratch Series with 783, Andy Toro has High Scratch Game with 299, Jim Ming has Handicap Series with 770, and Jim McGowan has Handicap Game with 302. For the women Sandy Elsworth has Scratch Series with 574, Lakana Burkett has Scratch Game with 233, Ginger Chavez has Handicap Series with 739 and Marilyn Tefank has Handicap game with 287.
