8 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MARCH 2017 |
Over and over again many Delegates have been asked; "What
happened to our traffic control plan? We purchased the new sign that
was supposed to take your photo, where did it go?"
The Board of Directors decided to abandon the program as it would
have been very difficult to implement. Many HOA communities have
had problems with traffic control, as we have, but only about half
have instituted a traffic control program. They cite their residents
for breaking traffic rules and fine them after repeated violations. Sun
City in Palm Desert has had a traffic program for 15 years, and it has
been to their benefit. Others have tried to implement a plan and it
failed.
The status in our community has not changed, but that doesn't
mean we should continue our habit of speeding on our streets,
running through stop signs, following too close, parking on the
sidewalks and so on. There are some intersections in our complex
that are truly dangerous to cross the street. Regardless of where you
might cross a street, please look carefully in both directions and hurry
to get to the other side. It has been suggested that our Safety Advisory
Committee audit our intersections and place "speed bumps" at the
more dangerous locations.
It might help our situation if residents get involved, hopefully
others will follow. If you slow down and follow the speed limit, others
behind you will be forced to do the same. If enough of our residents
obey the limits, perhaps others will do so. Some residents have been
seen holding up their hand attempting to slow a driver. Most of the
time it works but, of course, there are some residents who will ignore
you.
Spring and summer are approaching and that means more foot
traffic on our streets. There will be more children on our streets and
our older residents are getting slower. Is it that important that we
drive 30 or 40 miles per hour on our streets to get where we are going?
Be observant, slow down, you may save a life and it may be your
own!
