When I take the time to listen to music anymore, I typically don't tune around on a radio dial to bring in any radio station that might catch my ear. When I was much younger I practically lived inside my radio as I listened to great radio stations like KRLA 1110 AM Pasadena, 93KHJAM Los Angeles, KBLA1580 AM Santa Monica, KFWB Channel 98 AM in Los Angeles, Soul Station #1 KGFJ, The Mighty 1290 Los Angeles, Country Music's KLAC AM 570 Los Angeles, KMEN1290 AM and KFXM AM 590 both in San Bernardino. Radio listening was red hot back then with fantastic Dee Jays, contests, jingles and of course the music. Most people have the fondest memories of when they were in their formative years; summertime, first kiss, first date, first love. The music from a time in a young person's life usually brings back all those special events. It seems that music is the best time machine that can reclaim those memories in our collective hearts and minds. A trip down memory lane is what most often happens when we join Barb Miller, Rosie Ingalls & D.J. Blast for "An Evening Of Karaoke", here at Sun Lakes on any given month. People seem to be nostalgic, without giving it a second thought when they sing a song from long ago. Of course that is not always the case as people will try out newer songs that fill the landscape of their lives and current situations. More often than not though, most people will reach back to a simpler, more gentle time when life was fresh, new and unexpected. TV, movies, radio and life in general was something we could all share together as a generation. These days however we are more selective in our listening and viewing, due to the fact that the outlets for these entertainment venues have gone to our cell phones, iPads and computers. We are more connected than ever before, yet further apart than ever. At least with Karaoke we can still feel that oneness we once shared with the songs we all listened to when all of us only had TV, movie theaters and transistor radios to fill our senses and minds with the sights and sounds of bygone eras. So make a date now to join Barb Miller, Rosie Ingalls & D.J. Blast for some good times and Karaoke on Sat., March 11 in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom and Sat., March 25 also in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Both dates begin at 5:30 pm and go until 9:30 pm.
