Amateur Radio Club

Garden Club
Showing our gardens is a highlight of pride for most gardeners. Showing it to pests is another story. Our August meeting commenced with a discussion of several products that seem to discourage most of the unwanted critters who frequent our backyard soup kitchens. Locally, there are some who use red pepper and report success. There is a strong odor of the pepper and application is required for fi ve successive days. Grandchildren and house pets may wrinkle their noses at the application, but are unlikely to be harmed by it. For natural substances (ground up fl owers and herbs), gardeners can Google natural garden pest repellent and fi nd several different non-toxic brands along with true success and failure reports.
Our club is now working on signs for the Laurel Paseo Park that identify the various plants there. We are also planning a potluck for later this year and possibly sampling the fruits of our summer labors in the gardens.
During open discussion, we talked about how to transplant from containers to the ground. Our topic for September will be

container gardening and members are asked to talk about the types of containers they are using and their benefi ts/shortcomings. The meeting will be on Sept. 6, at 9 am in the Ballroom. ~ Len Tavernetti
