FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | APRIL 2017 55 Ping Pong Getting new things is always exciting. Getting a new car, a new home, or a new job brings excitement, challenges, and anticipation. Our ping pong club loves the excitement, challenge, and great anticipation that comes with getting a new venue for our sport. If all goes well, this new venue will be in Rec. Center 3, scheduled to open in late spring and, as a club, we are ready to spring into action with this new move. This will be ping pong's third move. From very humble beginnings we started out playing on one table at the Lodge in the Art Room. With more and more people coming to play ping pong and because we were constantly bumping into walls and windows in that small room, we were moved to our current location, the Aerobics Room. The association bought us another table and we were happy campers. The larger room meant we had more room to maneuver. The extra table meant we were able to add more players, and we had shorter waits to get playing time on a table. But guess what? That only lasted a couple of years. The popularity of ping pong brought in so many new players that sometimes we had more players in the Aerobics Room than the legal limit. That meant some players waited their turn to play in the ping pong room while others had to wait outside the ping pong room to have their turn on a table. Now, with the scheduled opening of Rec. 3, we hope those days are behind us. It will be very exciting to have a third table, more room for players to back up when returning a deeply hit ball, and with a higher ceiling, no more missed points because of ceiling balls. But guess what? With more and more of our great community members coming to play ping pong, we intend to keep growing our club. Who knows where they will move us next, maybe city hall. Wherever it is, we will go because YOUR ping pong club is all about fun, fitness, and friendship. Before we move, join us in the Aerobics Room Monday through Friday at 10:30 am and Saturday at 11 am and be part of this next historic location change. We would love to have you. Both singles and doubles tournaments will be held on separate weeks. Because of Breeze article timing, those winners will be announced in the May article. We're still having a little trouble with all the rain causing a cancellation or two, but April should be the end of that, I hope. Our March social event was held as usual with dinner at The Bistro followed by dessert at a member's home (my favorite part), which was hosted by Tom and Marion Herron. Homemade desserts, wow, my favorites. A "well done" goes to Marion, oh, and Tom as well. So come out and join us this spring/summer and enjoy playing on one of the most scenic and safe horseshoe venues in the entire San Gorgonio Pass area. The camaraderie you'll enjoy along with the competitive spirit of all our members is just the best. Come out and have some fun! We meet every Wednesday at 9 am at The Summit.
