FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | APRIL 2017 29 Kiwanis Club of Beaumont The Beaumont Kiwanis Club thanks everyone for coming out to our annual pancake breakfast. Thank you also to Stater Brothers, Food for Less, and Farmers Boys for their food donations. Also to Perricone Juice for their donation of great orange juice. Finally, thank you to all the businesses who took out placemat ads. The money raised will go towards youth programs and Beaumont High School Scholarships programs. Several members of the club attended the Kiwanis District Convention in March. This is where all clubs in the area get together and get training and share ideas. Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers serving one community, one child at a time. The "K" in Kiwanis stands for Kids, on whom our organization focuses help. Our next community project will be seeking matching funds from Kiwanis District Foundation to purchase safety equipment for youth football. One of our goals in Kiwanis is preventing pediatric trauma. With grant and matching funds, we hope to donate about $5,000 for the purchase of safety equipment. In April our club assists the Beaumont Recreation and Parks District with their annual Fishing Derby. This is held at the ponds located at Cherry Valley Blvd. and Beaumont Ave. in Cherry Valley. Our club shows kids how to fish, tie hooks on their lines, and fishing safety. We also provide floating bait to those fishing at no cost. This is a fun day for everyone involved. One of our major fundraisers is May 27: the annual Cherry Fest Car and Motorcycle Show in Stewart Park at Ninth and Orange in Beaumont. The last few years there have been around 150 cars and motorcycles in the show (we hope to have more this year). The cost to pre-register to show your car is $25 and participants receive a car show t-shirt and a dash plaque. The public is invited to view the cars and motorcycles. There is no cost for the public to view the show, so come out to the park and have a great day. For more information, call Buzz Dopf at (909) 208-0880 for an application or go online to Beaumont Cherry Fest Car Show for an application. The Beaumont Kiwanis Club is meeting at the Beaumont Four Seasons Lodge in the Conference Room every Thursday except for the first Thursday of the month. The meeting starts at 6:30 pm, if you wish to order food prior to the meeting come early to order your food at Smitty's Bistro. We are looking for new members. Please come and see what Kiwanis can do for you and what you can do for the community and the "Kids of the World." For information about our events and attending a meeting call Buzz Dopf at (909) 208-0880 or come to a meeting on Thursdays. ~ Buzz Dopf
