56 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | APRIL 2017 According to the EPA, dog waste is as toxic to the environment as chemical and oil spills and is the third leading cause of water pollution. Think about this one: wastewater treatment systems are not designed to filter dog waste! If you think nature will take care of the problem, here is another shocker: our natural ecosystem can handle just two dogs per square mile. In our community, we currently have an estimated 900 dogs, with more to come. Our gorgeous surroundings can't support leaving behind dog waste! We continue to have problems with pup parents failing to pick up. For clarification, pet waste pick up/disposal is not a service covered by our HOA dues! Dog owners are responsible for picking up after their dog(s), regardless of where the "deposit" occurs; trails, common areas, sidewalks, streets and, especially, our neighbors' yards. If anyone is picking up after your dog, it's probably one of our D.O.G. members, many of whom take personal responsibility for keeping our community clean. Still, it's a responsibility all dog parents must take seriously. As there are no doggie waste stations yet in the newer areas of our community, we count on one another to carry waste bags, pick up, tie off the bag to reduce odor, and dispose of the waste in one of the designated stations or in your own waste container. We all thank you for your contributions to keeping our community clean and free of dog waste. To learn more about what the D.O.G. is up to and progress on an off-leash area (OLA) for Four Seasons, please attend our next meeting April 19 at 7 pm in RCN 3. OF THE MONTH Bindi Bug is a true "heart dog" to her mom, Marty Davis. She is 17 months old now. Marty fell in love with Bindi and her big beautiful eyes when she was an 11 week old puppy. Marty knew she belonged in her family and brought her home. Bindi helps her big brother, Rusty, when he needs it. He has trouble going down the dog ramp. Bindi has encouraged him to be more active and Marty shares that Bindi has made her more active, too. Bindi is the best medicine ever! ~ Martha Baumgarten Photo credit: Alex Woodcock, Alexpressions Photography
