14 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | April 2017 | It's a great time for reading addicts. April provides longer lighted hours for reading! That's how I view daylight savings time. And, our library has a great selections of books. Is it time for you to try a new author? Many of us keep going to the same author and don't explore the talents others have. I have really expanded my selections and it's a lot more fun. Try it! Challenge yourself to read a completely different author once a month, along with your favorites. Is everyone aware that the location of the Four Seasons albums are in the double door cabinet under the R-S fiction books? We just could not display them on our tables. Do pull one or two out and enjoy seeing the events at Four Seasons in times past. Is everyone aware that we have DVD movies that can be checked out at the front desk? The list is huge and kept at the front desk as well. We also have audio CDs to be borrowed. They are stored in the cabinet on the left side of our library. Soon it will be RV time and that's when they are really used. We have our library guidelines displayed by the book return basket. Did you realize that we have a three or four book limit on borrowing books? And, we ask you to return them in two weeks if possible. We always have residents coming in to see if the book they are waiting for is finally back. Some have waited a couple of months and some books are not returned at all. We are still waiting for several travel books to be returned. Perhaps someone is traveling with them and will return the books when they come home. Please remember our library is on the honor system. Our books belong to Four Seasons residents who have donated them to our library. Please, please return them! As of now we will display February, March and April's magazines. Paperbacks are still being displayed from 2010 and up. When we become crowded again we will change the date. Our hardbound fiction on the shelves are from 2006-up. You can still bring all your books and magazines out of date as we support the Hemet library and will deliver them downtown. We will be working on replacing the worn out chairs in the library, I believe they are 12 years old. They have held up really well as they are well made. It never happens overnight but we are aware of the need. Book report by Kay Masonbrink Our very own Hemet Four Season's celebrity has done it again! Resident author Lynne Spreen recently released her third book Key Largo Blues and I'm here to tell you that it's a good read. This is the sequel to her first book Dakota Blues so it continues with heroine Karen Grace's mid-life challenges. As the book opens we find Karen in an RV park in Key Largo, FL trying to figure out a new career since she lost her job, and where to go with the relationship with Curt, the love interest we met in Dakota Blues. Though her friend Frieda is no longer with us, her granddaughter Jessie joins the cast so the reader navigates through the trials that Jessie as a young mother married to a real loser goes through. But mainly the book is about a smart savvy 50+ year old female who deals with the joy, challenges and beauty of life after 50. What I especially enjoy in these books are the characters that belong to the group "CRS Ladies." The censor won't allow me to tell you what "CRS" stands for so you will have to read the book to find out. I know you will enjoy them as much as I did. See you in the library… Cookie Scott Library Committee Landscape Committee Our landscape crew has been very busy this past month as they continue to do an outstanding job throughout our community. Phase two of our landscape plan is now completed. Many thanks to all the committee members for their time and hard work on this project. Included in the new plantings are trees of crepe myrtles, jacaranda's and birch, along with a variety of new shrubs. As spring approaches we hope you will enjoy all the added color from the new shrubs and the trees as the new leaves start to appear. The next area the committee will be looking to refurbish will be in front of the Lodge. Planning on Phase three will begin this summer with ideal planting time for this phase after the summer heat is over. We welcome the relief the winter rains brought us and we should all continue to save water where we can. The HOA irrigation water was turned off before Thanksgiving and soon, as our temperatures warm, it will be turned back on again. Though irrigation occurs in the overnight hours, we ask anyone noticing a malfunction or standing water to report it to Michelle at (951) 325-8188. If there is an area that needs attention please let us know. There are landscape request forms available at the Lodge front desk. As a reminder, if you are planning on changing or replacing your landscaping with a more drought tolerant design, those plans need to be submitted to the Architectural Review Committee for approval prior to beginning your project. All homeowners are welcome to attend our meetings on the first Wednesday of each month.
