| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | April 2017 | 15 April's tip: Are you a Prepper? You don't have to be one to prepare yourself and your loved ones for a major disaster — but it is a good idea to at least explore information of how to improve your level of preparedness. Remember, the worst time to do so is in the midst of a major event! Here is a good starting point Internet site: http:// americanpreppersnetwork.com/. You might be asking, "Why should I be interested in this?" There have been many warnings from government agencies and geophysical experts that have identified the threats from various faults in Southern California — including a new one that probably extends from San Diego to Inglewood and was the one that caused the 1933 Long Beach quake. If one of these becomes "The Big One," the disruption of public services could extend for from days to weeks! We realize that there are many new residents, and many that have been here for years that may not typically read the Herald regularly, so we want to explain some details about what organizations and activities we have here at Four Seasons related to Emergency Preparedness. Our Emergency Preparedness Committee is a "Standing Committee" sponsored by the Board of Directors. As such, members apply for a position on this committee and are approved by the Board. It meets at 5 pm on the fourth Monday of the month, in the Lodge. Visitors are invited to attend. Our charter calls for us to make plans and develop resources to aid our community with responding to emergencies that are more involved than a single house or two, or may occur when events make support by first responders unavailable. In addition to our EPC meetings, we offer monthly Safety and Preparedness meetings at the Lodge, typically the fourth Monday at 6:30 pm. This is also the monthly meeting of Four Seasons' Community Emergency Response Training, or C.E.R.T., offered by the Riverside County and Hemet Fire Departments. This training includes some light search and rescue techniques, basic fire suppression, simple triage first aid, radio communications, and incident command procedures. While encouraged, this advanced training is NOT a necessary requirement for participation. We invite, and encourage, all residents to attend and increase their knowledge and skills. We have prepared household packets of information and emergency information forms to assist all in their personal preparation efforts. Emergency Preparedness Committee Facilities Committee April is here and your Facilities Committee has been busy. We have studied the following projects. After careful consideration and much discussion, we submitted them to Board of Directors for their approval. The Board approved them at the February meeting. • Paver cleaning • Pool stair railing covers • New side chairs for the library • Recover the pool tables • New cushions for the chairs on the Plaza and BBQ area • Replace the Bingo console and board • Resurface the shuffle board courts • New audio and video equipment for the Ballroom. • Build a storage building by the handball courts. We have accumulated a lot and the store room in the Ballroom is packed. As is required, these have gone through the Finance Committee to assure we have the money in the appropriate accounts. The Facilities Committee strives to maintain our community as one that we all can be proud of. Our Board of Directors and Finance Committee tasks us with doing this within budget. All projects are put out to bid, then reviewed for cost effectiveness and high quality. We are here to help our community. The management of a Community Association is a complex task of coordinating multiple contractors to work in unison towards a common goal; the cost- effective operation and maintenance of the Association's property. As always if you see something that needs attention let us know.
