24 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | April 2017 | Thoughts for the Month: When the sun is out and the wind is still, you know the month upon us is none other than April. Time certainly has a way of getting away from us and especially for Team Sunshine as we have busily brought to a close the month of March. Celebrations of Life: Our condolences go out to the family of Bud Singer. A celebration of life was held on March 7. We hold the family in our hearts and prayers as they grapple with the loss of their loved one. We often do not have information on others who may have passed in this community. Again, our condolences to those who have suffered loss. Special Thank You to Dessert Contributors: Our Team Sunshine ladies (Carole Barber, Nancy Drake and Patsy Shewach) who are responsible for calling residents for homemade contributions (cookies, brownies, etc.) have often mentioned extending a big thank you to those individuals who so generously contribute time and time again to the Celebrations of Life. We take this moment to say, "Many thanks for your contributions and your generous caring spirits." Kindness Recognition: Most of our lives we have heard a phrase, that says in part, "love your neighbor." Our nominee today has opened her heart and her home to demonstrate such love by giving one of the greatest gifts you can give at a time of crisis, a place to live. Geraldine Prins did this! Her friend and Team Sunshine member, Rose Harvey, noticed and nominated her for the April 2017 Kindness Award. Rose says, on her nomination card, "Geraldine Prins gave shelter to a man in need of a place to stay when he had nowhere to go." For this supreme act of kindness, Team Sunshine would like to recognize and show our love to Geraldine Prins (photo right) with the April 2017 Kindness Award. Kindness is one of the most important gestures we can extend to one another. We are hoping that we will all think before we act. You can pick up a "Kindness" card at the front desk. If you observe someone who has put forth a special effort to be kind, helping, or caring, simply obtain a card from the front desk or LaDean Hatcher. Please include the person's name and a comment why you are recommending this individual for kindness recognition. Special Team Sunshine Information: We encourage residents to call Margie Culton (491-4058) or Marilyn Rhyne (926-9347) for Team Sunshine information. Our two Co-Chairs can direct you to the individual in Team Sunshine who can help with your concern. Thank you. A good source of Team Sunshine information is the Caring Connection Card which can be obtained at the Lodge front desk. Please stop by and pick up your copy. If you know of someone who has had surgery, recovering from an illness, etc., please contact Trish Egan (909) 844-3852. She will send the appropriate card. This information is also passed to a "calling team." They will initiate a call as follow-up. Special Monthly Programs: The March program was entitled, What is the Salvation Army and What Do They Do in Hemet? Our speaker, Denise Litereal, Corp Assistant for the Hemet Salvation Army, also covered what the Salvation Army does oversees with Children's Programs. It was an interesting and informative program. We, in Four Seasons are enthusiastic supporters of the Salvation Army and provide funds every year to help needy children in the Hemet area. Our April program is entitled Doc Talk presented by Rancho Family Medical Group on Wed., April 12. Our speaker will be Dr. Memon who will speaking on topics such as blood pressure, diet and exercise. A question and answer session will follow his presentation. Refreshments will be served. Please mark your calendar. Again, by popular demand, is our Health Fair on Thurs., May 18. You won't want to miss this yearly health-check event. If you haven't had the privilege of being a participant in the past, you will certainly want to make time for this informative and eye-opening look into your health. Please mark your calendar. Closing Thoughts: "If you ask what is the single most important key to longevity, I would have to say it is avoiding worry, stress and tension. And if you didn't ask me, I'd still have to say it." George Burns, US actor and comedian (1896 - 1996) We are always looking at ways to improve our services to the community and better communicate this. Our focus will always be SOS (Serving Our Seniors). Team Sunshine Geraldine Prins is the April 2017 Kindness Award recipient.
