58 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JANUARY 2016 | We had our first World Cup Team tennis event with an absolute outstanding turn out. All courts were used and a super time was had by all. We had a potluck and of course, as always, our tennis club had more food than we could eat. There were such delicious arrays of entrées, salads, desserts and more. Our tennis club sure knows how to put on a potluck dinner. We just wanted to give a big "thank you" to all of our captains and players that participated in this event. We have received great feedback from players. Just want to keep encouraging our new players to keep coming out and enjoying this amazing sport. Upcoming events: May 6, 8 am: Saturday Mixer (open to all levels of play) May 10, 5 pm: World Cup Team Tennis/ Tacos & Tequila, $5 May 20, 5:30 pm: 2 Quarterly Meeting – Italian Dinner SCH, $10 June 3, 8 am: Saturday Mixer (open to all levels of play) June 14, 5 pm: World Cup Team Tennis/ BBQ Please join us for our second quarterly meeting on May 20 at the South Clubhouse at 5:30 pm. The cost for dinner is $10 pp. Please put your checks made payable to the Tennis Club in the lock box. The menu will be: your choice of meat or vegetable lasagna, salad, bread and dessert. We will be sending via email the agenda, minutes and treasurer's report. This way you will be able to review these items before the meeting and it will also save on a lot of wasted paper. The USTA matches for men and women have started. Come out and support our Sun Lakes Teams play against other teams from the Inland Empire. Women's home matches are May 6 at 5 pm, May 20 at 10 am, June 11 and 17 at 5 pm. Men's only home match is May 6 at 11 am. "You only live once, but, you get to serve twice!" See you on the courts, be safe and have fun! Tennis We have had so many new and fun members join our club, and their excitement and enthusiasm for POP Tennis is really contagious! Our membership is now at near 80 and still growing! We had a great turnout for our first clinic on March 24, and fellow club member and tennis professional, Tracy Galongo, instructed even those totally new-to-any-sport people that there is a place within our game for them. Our April 9-10 event, including clinics, fun mixer play, demonstrations, raffles, prizes, etc., followed by a cookout on April 10 at the South Clubhouse, will surely have been a great event for all our new and old players! We will follow up with the results of this in next month's magazine! Our current schedule of play is Mon., Wed., Fri., Sat. at 10 am and Tues., Thurs., Sun. at 8 am.
