May's Tip: It is a very good idea to have closed toe, slip-on shoes
by your bed with a flashlight stuffed in one in case there is a fire
or severe earthquake. Related to this, consider wearing close-toed,
shoes and carrying a small flashlight when you are traveling by air
— broken shards and burning things can slow you down if you are
barefooted!
The EPC (Emergency Preparedness Committee) is starting up our
campaign to prepare Hemet Four Seasons for participation in the
"Great Shakeout" exercise, which takes place this year on Thurs., Oct.
19 at 10:19 am. We plan to have several events to increase community
awareness and involvement, and sharpen our skills so that this will
be the best one ever!
It's important to prepare for possible disasters and other
emergencies because natural and human caused disasters can strike
suddenly, at any time and anywhere. Please take the time to visit
the Web sites sponsored by the Red Cross: www.preparesocal.org
and www.redcross.org /prepare/. They have all kinds of information
about preparedness for Southern California residents! There are
three actions everyone can take that can help make a difference:
1. Get a kit
2. Make a plan, and
3. Be informed.
As a reminder, our community needs your involvement. This
would require only as much or as little effort on your part as you
are willing to invest. There are no minimums of time, experience or
training involved. And, recognizing that this is a "Senior Community"
there are no real physical requirements — just a willingness to do
what you can do. While our certified C.E.R.T. members have received
at least 20 hours of training, anyone can come to our Safety and
Preparedness meetings where you can receive information and even
receive training related to C.E.R.T. Check the Herald calendar for
meeting days and times. Our May meeting will be Mon., May 22 at
6:30 pm.
