FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JUNE 2017 61 Beautiful flowers, trees, and shrubs are the setting for shuffleboard play. Great game, fun, exercise with friends, all are a few steps south of RCN Building at the Lodge. Everyone is welcome. Everyone is learning. Who goes first? Which color disks go? How to strategize to block, kill other team's points, and score for your own team. Players use a cue (cue-stick) to push their colored disks down the court. The scoring diagram is divided by lines, into six scoring zones, with the following values: 10, 8, 8, 7, 7, 10-off. You hope not to land on 10-off. Play times are 2 pm on Fridays, 11 am on Saturdays, 12 noon on Sundays, and 10 am on Mondays. All are welcome. Come join in the fun and learn. Recently a 100-point game took just nine minutes. We needed to change partners on that court for a more "random mix." For centuries Indians living in this area dwelled in the palm studded canyons south of Palm Springs. The Take-a-Hikers returned again this year to this scenic landscape. In perfect 70 degree weather the stroll-like under a canopy of palms completed our annual round robin of seashore, mountains, desert and forests that we visit. This is a favorite recreation for snowbirds to our desert cities and usually crowded in the winter and early spring. Our hike, being in May, found the trail through Palm Canyon fairly deserted and quiet, yet buzzing with humming birds, lizards and squirrels in search of their morning repasts. Our round trip 4.5-mile hike worked up our appetites as well and we concluded our morning with lunch at Las Casuelas in Palm Springs. To find out where we are hiking in 2017 call or email Lynette Simonson at (951) 377-0392 or lynette.simonson@gmail.com. ~ Len Tavernetti TAKE A HIKE CLUB No, not a HOA Board meeting, two is not a quorum L-R: Lynette Simonson, Jim Sein, Bruce Heimlich, Adona Lamar, Bev and Walt Webster and Barry Morgan Indian signs or natural markings?
