14 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JUNE 2017 Four Seasons Spotlight aphire Rhodes has been promoted to assistant general manager of Four Seasons Beaumont. She replaces Eric Zarr, who was also promoted to general manager of another property managed by FirstService Management in Chino. For the past 16 months, Rhodes has served as facilities coordinator, receiving queries from residents and passing them on to the Safety, Facilities or Lodge Committees for action. She compared that job to being "a blood vein—the information passes from the resident through me to the committee." As assistant general manager her responsibilities will be much broader, encompassing all aspects of the community, and she's delighted. "We have enough people here – both staff and residents – to drive home what we really want," she said. "They really work together." General Manager Jeri Mupo said, "I am excited to have Saphire Rhodes join our management staff. She will be an exceptional addition for our community." Rhodes began her career at Four Seasons as a Lodge attendant for nine months at both the main Lodge and the Summit. She said that experience gave her a good, ground-level look at how the community works. She enjoyed the daily, direct interaction with residents that job provided. "There are all kinds of different personalities here, both residents and staff," she said. Rhodes began her working career early, at 14. She was in an independent study program at Palm Springs High School that allowed her to work at a craft store to help her mother support her brother and sister "I made all the sample products the customers could make from kits – embossing, beading, needlepoint, paint-by- the-numbers – everything." After high school she attended Desert Career College and became a medical assistant – the "one who meets you, takes your vitals, and asks, 'do you have any pain today? On a scale of one to ten, how severe is it?'" Her next job was as an assistant manager of the Miracle Hot Springs resort in Desert Hot Springs. The job there gave her experience with resort maintenance, purchasing, landscaping and running group events – all skills of use on her new job. She and her husband Richard moved from Desert Hot Springs to Beaumont to be near his family. He is an electrician who is often away for work, home only on weekends. During their time off together they "watch movies, collect movies, spend a day at the beach – and I make jewelry." She grew up in Desert Hot Springs and graduated from Palm Springs High School, "a millennial graduate," she said – in the last class from Palm Springs before Desert Hot Springs opened its own school. She sees upcoming challenges for Four Seasons in the looming build-out of the community when builder, K. Hovnanian Homes turns everything over to the HOA and FirstService Management. Before that happens, Hovnanian will have finished redoing the Ballroom, a project made necessary by a faulty roof truss. The room will have a dance floor across all three sections all new carpeting and improved acoustics. There is no cost to the HOA; Hovnanian is picking up the bill. Rhodes also wants to work on, "bonding the newbies (new residents) with residents who have been here longest – our veterans. Both the Board and the committees are working on that." She said she prefers the word "veteran" to the word "older" - an attitude that should make points in a 55-and-up community. She finds working here, "like working in paradise. It's absolutely beautiful – that doesn't hurt. I am so blessed to be working with the people I'm working with." Rhodes wants to work on, "bonding the newbies (new residents) with residents who have been here longest – our veterans. Both the Board and the committees are working on that."
